Football Season Is Back in Action
Â
And so we have it folks. Summer is over and a new school year has just begun. I have started to see the changing leaves ignite the woods as I walk to campus every morning as the already fallen ones crunch beneath my feet. Feeling the cold breeze blow in, spotting the bookstore lines flow out of the co-op, and watching the lady huskies travel around school with their pumpkin lattes, I have come to realize it must be that time of the year. Football Season (I mean Fall)- we meet again.
Â
August 29th the parking lot of Rentschler Field quickly crowded as students, parents, locals and die-hearts gathered for UConn’s first football game of the season. The colors of navy and white swarmed the area as people tailgated cooking some of the finest hot dogs, wings and hamburgers on their portable grills. By 7:15 p.m everyone started making his or her way towards the stadium entrance for the 7:30 p.m kick off.
Â
Music blared through the stadium and students cheered as the Huskies stormed onto the field to face the Towson Tigers. The chemistry of the student section exploded as they all stood to support their Football Team. We had students covered in blue and white paint, students sporting the newest Husky tee-shirts and students who lived up to the #bleedblue expectancies. The crowd cheered, chanted and clapped as Towson set their kickoff sixty yards down the field.
Â
As the red sun passed below the scoreboard, UConn earned its first touchdown of the season, as well as the first touchdown of the game about seven minutes into the first quarter. The Cheerleaders and the Dance Team kept the whole crowd amped even through Towson’s success to put their team tied on the scoreboard.
Â
The game ended in an unfortunate loss of 18-33. But besides the standing numbers on the scoreboard there is not much to be down about. I can assure you that the Husky pride, spirit and togetherness makes a Football game this year, worth your while.Â
