Start Next Fall Semester Right- Prepare Now!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Texas chapter.

It is never too early to start preparing for next semester. Some may be wondering, ”Next semester? I just want to make it to May!” But consider this; finals for spring may be just around the corner, but so are looming Fall deadlines! So start now, by crossing “get organized” off the ever expanding to-do list, and add these tips to help you along next semester.

Deadlines

  1.  Although the first day of registration has passed be sure to keep tabs on your fall classes. Meet with your academic advisor early to lift that registration bar, pay all outstanding university dues, and begin considering what courses you need to graduate.
  2. For some, registration means applying for financial aid. It is already too late for current students to submit a FAFSA, but all outstanding Fall 2012/Spring 2013 financial offers are not due until May 10th, 2013. So don’t panic, there is still time! And remember, there are other avenues to take! Try other financial services, student loans, scholarships- most deadlines are impending!
  3. Speaking of impending deadlines, impending homelessness, and long nights alone on a friends couch, awaits the girl who does not renew her lease in time, or starts looking for homes fast! With nearly 700 people moving into the Austin area everyday, the market for homes and apartments is competitive. Just look on any realty site: 512 Realty, Uptown Realty, Austin Realty- you will see that most of the apartments and homes in west and north campus have been claimed.
  4. Additionally, if you are looking to store your furniture and items over the summer, you should move fast!
An employee for a storage facility just off 51st street shared with me, that they have had students registering
for units since January, and that the situation was similar elsewhere.

Summer Objectives
After the chaos has ensued- finals are over and you have completed your to-do list, keep these important objectives in mind: (1) relax! (2) stay healthy, and (3) keep stimulated.
The last thing we want to do after a stressful semester, is to extend life’s worries and throw our health to the garbage bins of McDonalds. Don’t throw your brain away either! If you can, get ahead of next semester’s readings.
The main objective should be to schedule things out and do a little at a time, and to make next semester as stress-free as your summer.
