Our Favorite Lines for Spring

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bucknell chapter.

It’s FINALLY time to retire our overwhelmingly large and puffy parkas and the LL Bean boots that we’ve all trekked long and hard through the snow in, so we can bask in the sunshine and break out the sundresses and sandals that have been holding a lonely spot in our closets for far too long.  Not only are we excited to dust off our most coveted pieces from last spring that we have been dying to wear again; it’s also time to freshen up this season’s wardrobe.  Our favorite designers and clothing brands have unveiled their newest spring collections to show us the latest trends to look out for and pull off for ourselves.  Take a look at our favorite lines for spring and try not to drool over the newest items that are about to hit the shelves.

Kate Spade Saturday

Kate Spade is a brand that exudes elegance with a girly and fun touch.  The bright touches of pink, green, yellow, and other pastels make each piece of clothing pop and the patterns are always fun, but not too crazy at the same time.  Perfect for college girls everywhere, Kate Spade just launched their newest line Kate Spade Saturday, which is an affordable and younger based collection.  The newest line focuses on practicality and the classic staples that are must-haves in everyone’s closet.  The quirky and flirty pieces range from a three-way dress to a bright blue cape to a classic cut-out LBD.  This line is perfect for getting a taste of designer wear without the splurge or guilt you get after swiping your credit card when you know you shouldn’t.

Free People

Free People is every trendy, Bohemian chic girl’s dream, and their newest spring collection does not disappoint.  With a range of pieces from romantic lace dresses to grungy tops and shorts, their clothing is versatile and can be worn for several occasions, by girls with every different type of style.  As the musical festival season has recently kicked off, this collection is perfect for bringing together the gauzy tops and cutoff shorts that can solve your “what to wear” problems to these events in no time.  This line brings together the girly maxi dresses and flowy skirts that can be worn into the summer.  Also, this collection continues to embody the free-spirited vibe that we get from each lookbook for each season’s collection.  So, if you have Coachella or Lollapalooza on the horizon and you’re iffy on what to wear, take a look at Free People’s latest collection. You’ll be dancing the days away in the perfect ensembles.

Madewell

As J.Crew’s younger and more hipster friendly sister, Madewell always unveils the best collections of mixable pieces that the everyday girl can rock either on the street or in the workplace.  Their pieces are completely wearable and their pretty combinations of floral and polka dot patterns give the most feminine touch to some of the most menswear inspired clothing such as boyfriend shirts and denim pants.  With this spring collection, Madewell gave it a soft touch and supplied their shoppers with pretty and elegant pastel colored blouses, preppy pencil skirts, and denim that can be dressed up with heels or dressed down with a pair of Converse sneakers.  Not only did they hit right on point with the individual pieces themselves, but Madewell does a fantastic job of styling and creating the perfect combination of tops, jackets, and shorts that come together to unfold into a stylish masterpiece.  Just one item on its own can be enough, but by layering something like a loud, lace top with a chambray on top makes the whole outfit look completely put together and thought out.  Just by mixing and matching different pieces, everything in this spring collection is completely on point.

Comptoir des Cotonniers

This French brand is one of my favorites and I first discovered it when it launched about a year ago in Bloomingdales and became an instant hit.  This brand is for the girl who enjoys dressing herself up with a little extra effort for the everyday world, as it embodies elegance and sophistication with its tailored dresses, jackets, and pants.  But, don’t let the focus of elegance and refinement of the brand turn you away, as it still exhibits a young and fun vibe through its vibrant colors and patterns.  This French label attends to the cool working girl that cares about her style and look.  With this newest spring collection, the mint, bright pink, and melon colors of the silk tops with embellishments and light blazer jackets come together to create different pieces that should definitely be worn in the sunshine.

Club Monaco

With its second spring lookbook, Club Monaco continues to show that it is a chic and upscale-looking brand, yet it is accessible in malls across the country and is completely affordable.  Club Monaco’s pieces are always clean and modern, yet denote a pretty and girly vibe.  For the city girl who is willing to take a risk but not step off into the deep-end of fashion gambles, Club Monaco has provided us with classic pieces with a unique twist and touch of their own.  Their newest mint shorts aren’t just straightforward; they add something more with the scalloped design on the bottom.  Also, mixing a blue motorcycle jacket with a white pants suit is their way of mixing class with a small pinch of risk and grunge.  Not only are their designs and structural components perfect, but their vibrant patterns of floral and pops of color are perfect for the new season and everything that spring embodies.

Now that you have the lowdown on what’s hot in fashion with the coolest brands this spring, start recycling some old items in your closet that should be left in the past and replace them with the newest and most up-to-date items from these various collections.  Whether you’re the bohemian who shops at Free People or the preppy girl who adores Madewell, there will be pieces from each line that will make you want to take fashion risks and style items together that will make you the most fashionable one on campus.  So, what are you doing still reading this?  Get your credit card and get shopping!

After serving as Campus Correspondent at Bucknell University, she is so excited to continue being a part of the Her Campus team! Besides traversing the city and trying to figure out what being a "real person" really means, Sarah loves long walks on the beach, sipping pina coladas, and getting caught in the rain (kidding!). Real favorites include traveling, writing, kickboxing, and making up ridiculous lyrics to the latest songs. She absolutely loves anything that involves cupcakes, butterflies, glitter, and anything Parisian and specializes in baking with far too much chocolate and obsessively watching shows bound to be cancelled after the first season. Though the long term path for this post-grad collegiette remains unclear, she's looking forward to all the new 20-something adventures that await her!
