Summer Music Festivals in Europe

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

The start of spring means that festival season is upon us.  Many BC students have already bought their tickets for Bonnaroo (Manchester, TN), Electric Forest (Rothbury, MI), or Lollapalooza (Chicago, IL).  For those of you who will be in Europe this summer, we’ve found a few awesome festivals that you’ll definitely want to check out during your time abroad:

Main Square Festival

Location: Arras, France

Dates; July 5th-7th

Cost: 49 Euro per day

Details: Bloc Party, Blathazar, Modestep, Green Day, Sting, Of Monsters and Men, Kodaline, Modest Mouse, and Kendrick Lamar are all in the line up for this years’ festival. Tickets are 49 Euro a day, and if you’d like to camp for all three nights it’s an extra 25 Euro (or 8 Euro per night). This is an awesome festival to check out, especially if you are on a budget because it is considerably cheaper than Tomorrowland (Belgium) or T in the Park (Scotland).

Rock am Ring

The Location: Nurburgring, Germany

The Dates: June 7th-9th

Cost: 154.50 Euro for the Early Bird

The Details: Fun., All Time Low, Imagine Dragons, Green Day, Phoenix, Ellie Goulding, and The Killers will all be at Rock am Ring. If you’ll be in Europe early in the summer, make sure to head to Rock am Ring!

Pinkpop

The Location: Landgraff, The Netherlands

Dates: June 14th-16th

Cost: 80 Euro per day or 165 Euro for three days

The Details: Kings of Leon, Thirty Seconds to Mars, The Script, The Killers, Phoenix, Ben Howard, Green Day, Die Antwoord and Ellie Goulding are all apart of the lineup. Camping is available.

T in the Park

The Location: Balado, Kinross-Shire, Scotland.

Dates: July 12th-14

Cost: Friday: 75 Euro. Saturday and Sunday: 82.50 Euro. Three day (no camping): 184 Euro, with camping, 194 Euro.

The Details: The Killers, Mumford and Sons, and Rihanna are headlining, and they are just the beginning of an amazing lineup. Calvin Harris, Snoop Dogg, The Lumineers, Phoenix, Of Monsters and Men, Noah and the Whale, Imagine Dragons, Frank Ocean, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Modest Mouse (just to name a few) will also be in attendance. On top of the stages and the campsite, T in the Park has a refresh station, with hair dryers, showers, and even a nail bar and “Healthy T” where festival goers can find over 30 food stations. If you’re in Europe, and especially if you’re in the UK, you’ll definitely want to head to T in the Park

Tomorrowland

The Location: Belgium

Dates: July 26th-28th

Cost: Tickets on the website are sold out, but there are tickets available through http://www.viagogo.com/Concert-Tickets/Festivals/Festival-Tomorrowland-Tickets or http://www.stubhub.co.uk/tomorrowland-festival-tickets/tomorrowland-festival-boom-recreation-area-de-schorre-26-7-2013-4227004/

The Details: 2Dirty, Soundsystem, Electrified, Avicii, Umlaut, and Nicon are just some of the man bands preforming at this wild festival. If you decide to go, you’ll want to stay in Dreamville, the festival’s campsite (check out the gallery from last year: http://www.dreamville.be/gallery/dreamville-2012 and you’ll understand why).

These are only a taste of the great festivals in Europe this summer. If you want to check out more, head to http://www.musicfestivaljunkies.com/festival-guide/europe-festivals/!
