Southern Gentlemen at Saint Joseph’s University: Langston Galloway

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SJU chapter.

Ā

The leading scorer of a male D1 college sports team is subject to a lot of reputation damaging stereotypes. Guys fear their girlfriends secretly want to hook up with him, girls think said athlete is the player of all players (on and off the court) andĀ professors on a power trip do not have time for the rigorous practice-game-practice regime, and other students eagerly jump to conclusions about his ego.

Ā

Ā

Junior Langston Galloway on SJU Menā€™s Basketball Team defies every bad-mouthing rumor ever circulated about a successful student athleteā€™ssā€™ discipline or disposition. The 6ā€™3 point guard regularly attends DTP (Down to Pray) on Hawk Hill, a club who uses the popular acronym to study the word of God and apply it to student life. He makes it a point to wave, smile and say hi to every Hawk he knows on his way to class, practice or yet another interview.Ā  Originally from Louisiana, Langstonā€™s friendliness is second nature, but a rarity to us in Philadelphia. His success on the court has not inflated his head, because he knows how hard he worked to get here. Even with his recent success on the court, Langston credits his Dad with making him the athlete he is today.Ā  ā€œHe is my biggest inspiration,ā€ says Galloway. ā€œMy Dad has pushed me from day one.ā€ A double-major in Sports Marketing and Communications, weā€™re confident Langstonā€™s dedication to his faith and foundation, will propel him to heights beyond the net.

The southern gentleman has earned the nickname ā€˜raginā€™ Cajunā€™, shouted with enthusiasm by the SJU student section during every game. During this yearā€™s NCAA March Madness tosurnament, Langston will be honored by the NCAA for the community service he has done while on SJU Menā€™s Basketball team. Hawk Hill couldnā€™t agree more with the NCAA that Langston Galloway is an example for all student athletes and students. Even closer to SJUā€™s heart, his actions, dedication and warm personality, is a real life example of the Magis. Langston finds the time to live greater, while being committed to his team, his schoolwork and (aw!) his high-school sweetheart girlfriend.Ā  Catch him in Hagan practicing his game, at yet another charity event, or supporting other varsity teams and extracurricular activities on campus– if you can!

My name is Taylor Rizzolino, I am a student at Saint Joseph's University studying both English and Leadership, Ethics, and Organizational Sustainability. I am one of the founders of HerCampus SJU! I couldn't be more excited about this blog! I love Hawk Hill and all it has to offer students! I have spent the past two years volunteering on behalf of Saint Joe's, on the dance team at SJU and on The Hawk staff as a news writer. I love engaging audiences via social media and I hope to give all collegiates a well-rounded perspective of SJU through this blog ...with a lot of style and girl talk along the way! xo
