Lose the Freshman 15: Words of Encouragement

Happy Sunday everyone!  I’m almost done with my first week of this program, and I can already see myself becoming more concious of my eating choices– one of the first steps to achieving success.  However, I’m not going to lie and say that it’s been easy.  The long walk to the gym and the sweet temptations at the dining hall do not facilitate a painless transition.  I was on Pinterest the other day and found some great motivational quotes to remind me why I am on this journey and keep me determined to make a change:

It’s important for me to realize that this transformation is not going to be automatic.  I put on this weight over the course of months, so it will take time to take it all off as well.  While there will be bumps along the way, I know that everything this journey entails is completely worth it.  To keep me going, I should focus on how happy and proud I will be in the future.  I have hung up a list of all the reasons why I want to lose weight in my room to serve as a daily source of motivation.  Why do YOU want to lose weight?  What are some of the things that you do to remind yourself why you are on this journey?

Positivity is key– I will gain nothing if I maintain a negative outlook or get down on myself when I hit a setback.  It’s that simple.

My mindset is just as important as my exercise and diet efforts.  If I am not committed to making a long term lifestyle change, then I feel that I can easily gain all of the weight back.  In this situation, success is not a destination: there is no final end state.  Although I eventually will have lost the freshman 15 (I hope), that accomplishment is by no means the finish line.  I am making a change that will positively affect my lifestyle for many years to come, and the only way I can reach this state is with a strong, dedicated mindset.

What are some of your favorite inspirational quotes?  I’m planning on printing some quotes out to hang up in my room and put in my notebooks or other places as constant pick-me-ups and words of encouragement.

Check out two of my meals from the past two days!

This hearty dinner– broccoli, gnocchi with marinara sauce, and grilled chicken breast with pesto– was only 350 calories!  While I didn’t follow the SELF Drop 10 diet that meal, I was able to create a healthy and filling plate.  Generally, I try to fill my plate one-third with vegetables, one-third with chicken and fish, and one-third with a carb (pasta or brown rice).

This picture doesn’t really do this sandwich justice.  I made a variation of the Quick Chicken Sandwich from Wendy’s on the SELF Drop 10 diet.  Using the panini maker in my school’s cafeteria, I put in same ingredients as the Quick Chicken Sandwich– two lettuce leafs, two tomato slices, a slice of American cheese, and a grilled chicken breast in between two slices of wheat bread.  It was delicious and only 370 calories!  I’m trying to use the panini maker more to create healthy sandwiches and quesadillas.  Any suggestions for what I should include?

The DietBet game starts in two days!  Are you signed up? If not, it’s not too late, click here!  The pot is now over $2,000!  WOW!

Until Wednesday xoxo
