Meet Meg LeMoine, “Guru” of AppSits

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at App State chapter.

Name: Meg LeMoine

Claim to Fame: President (“Guru”) of AppSits, ASU’s Meditation Club

Year: Junior

Major: Anthropology

Hometown: Phoenix, AZ

Q: How did you first become involved with Meditation Club?

A: A friend of mine asked me to go with her my freshman year and I have been going ever since!

Q:  What is Meditation club? What do you do?

A: We meet once a week to meditate as a group, usually guided meditation, but we have recently been practicing many different meditations including crystal meditation, visualization meditation, spirit animal meditation, tai chi, yoga, walking meditation, and chanting. We also have positivity projects including Manifestation Journals and hosting International Coffee Hour to influence positive thinking in ourselves and our surroundings. We strive to be a place for all to come and meditate in peace and experience the benefits of meditating as a group and explore the experiences and knowledge that others have to offer.

Q:  What’s your favorite thing about App State and Boone?

A: My favorite thing about App State is that there are so many people here who are willing to share and teach others knowledge and experiences that they have, in and out of the classroom. There is so much to learn! My favorite things about Boone are the Blue Ridge Mountains and how they are constantly inspiring me.

Q:  What are some of your other hobbies or interests?

A: One of my favorite things to do is to stare out of windows, especially here in Boone. I also like to read poetry and fiction and drink Earl Grey tea. I have recently discovered my passion for knowing and naming native trees and wildflowers. But one must maintain a social life and sp I find pleasure in fulfilling this necessity by surrounding myself with people that I don’t know much about. I am very interested in culture, spirituality, and religion and how the things people insist on using to separate one another are usually the things that make us the same.

Q:  What’s a surprising fact about you?

A: Jurassic Park is my favorite movie and I am going to pay an unreasonable amount to see it in 3D in theaters.

Q:  If readers want to get involved with Meditation club, how can they get more information?

A: They can email me at lemoinemj@appstate.edu. We meet Mondays at 6:15 pm in Anne Belk room 1118.
