FitBit: Exercise Turned Social

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tulane chapter.

Imagine if, “getting in shape was as addictive as checking your Facebook and Twitter” (Amathon Time). Would you be more motivated to get in shape? What if your friends in near and far places were doing it too? Fitbit, a company founded on the desire to help people lead healthier and more active lives has thought outside the box, enabling the fitness industry to keep up with the rapid changes and developments in technology (Fitbit).

Founded by Yale graduate, Eric Friedman, Fitbit has been motivated to incorporate exercise, health, and technology into one seamless system. Not only does Fitbit feature their own app, where you can monitor your nutritional intake for the day, but you can also manage your sleep with the help of their featured products. Felx, a wireless wristband, not only monitors your sleep patterns, loading data to your mobile device, but it keeps you motivated 24 hours a day.

How is this possible you might ask? Fitbit Flex tracks your activity level, while keeping in mind your fitness goals. Wanted to go running today, but worried you don’t have time? The Flex band uses LED lights to measure up against your goal, indicating the percentage you have achieved. Without a run, you are at 40%, make time for a run in the afternoon, you are now at 80%. Nice Work!

Fitbit really has thought of everything when it comes to fitness being integrated into technology. Other products include a wireless activity tracker and a Wi-Fi smart scale that can measure your BMI as well as your weight, syncing the information right to your phone! Between the Fitbit products and their extensive app, you will be connected to your friends, being able to motivate each other, in no time.

Are you ready to reach your goals 24 hours a day? Are your friends?

Get ready. Get set. Get fit.
