Beating the Spring Break Blues

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Auburn chapter.

We’ve fallen back into the daily drone of classes, projects, and meetings, and our souls are yearning for the blissful ignorance of Spring Break. The relaxation, the friends, the boys, the fun are all fresh in our mind as we make it towards the home stretch to summer vacation. Unfortunately, the only glimpse of anything majorly exciting between now and finals is Alpha Psi’s Rodeo, and it’s starting to become obvious to all of us that we just can’t wait for some fun in the sun.  So while you’re sheltering yourself from the bipolar weather down here on the plains, turn your world into a Spring Break Oasis!!

One of the best parts about Spring Breaking on the beach is the glorious tan you bring as a souvenir. But as every collegiette™ knows, tans can sadly fade very fast. To avoid losing your darkened skin without the harmful and cancerous tanning bed, stop by your local drugstore and pick up some essentials. A variety of name brands offer self-tanning products can really lengthen the life of your tan, as well as give you that fresh just-stepped-off-the-beach look. Drugstores also offer many different types of After-Sun Lotion, which has the added benefit of not staining your clothes as the Natural Glow line tends to do if not used properly. Shaving repeatedly can take some time off your tan’s lifespan, so if you can go an extra day or two without breaking out the razor, do it! If you absolutely can’t stand the fuzz, make sure you’re using moisturizing shaving cream or gel—it will provide plenty of protection for your skin.

Plan a Spring Break Reunion! Invite the entire crew over and plan a trip down memory lane. No matter where you went, create a menu based on your vacation. For the collegiette™ who spent all her fun in the sun, serve food with a tropical twists (fruit trays, pineapple salsa, shrimp cocktail), anything that reminds you of the week at the beach. For added fun, serve beverages that are traditionally found at your Spring Break destination (piña coladas, coconut water, rum-based drinks). This is the time to get creative—we all know you’re not paying close attention during your lectures, so use the time to exercise your brain and come up with as many fun things as you can.  Invite your friends to dress as they would have were you back on Spring Break and instruct them all to bring their cameras. While you and your friends are munching on snacks and downing drinks, hook your laptop to the TV using a HDMI cord (sold at Wal-Mart and Target), set your photos on slideshow with some songs to remind you of the trip, and relieve every moment of the week’s events. Swap stories, share laughs, and just enjoy reminiscing over the time you spent with your friends.

Even if you didn’t go big for Spring Break, there is always one way to revive the relaxing state of mind. Schedule aside at least one hour for yourself during the day. It’s so easy to get weighed down by assignments and projects, but the end is so very near! If you just take some time in between all the school-related madness to watch your favorite show or read a few chapters of a good book, you can easily bring the reviving aspect of the so beloved Spring Break back into your college world.
