5 Shows You Should Be Watching

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

1.      Girls (HBO)

Girls is so incredibly honest and real that sometimes it’s actually painful to watch. The sex scenes are raunchy and graphic, the characters are lost and quirky, the relationships are rocky and toxic – never has a show so accurately depicted life in your 20’s. Girls puts out every awkward or uncomfortable feeling you’ve ever thought you were alone in feeling.

“No one could ever hate me as much as I hate myself, okay? So any mean thing someone’s gonna think of to say about me, I’ve already said to me, about me, probably in the last half hour.”

2.      The Mindy Project (FOX)

If you’re looking for a good laugh, look no further. Mindy, like all of us at some point (or most points), is just trying to get her life together, be a better person and find a boyfriend. Easier said than done, as Mindy so quickly finds.

“Maybe I won’t get married, you know? Maybe I’ll do one of those “Eat, Pray, Love” things. Ugh, no, I don’t want to pray. Forget it, I’ll just die alone.”

3.      Nashville (ABC)

Connie Britton is so incredibly flawless in everything she does (Friday Night Lights, RIP), that it’s no surprise her new show is a hit. In the show Britton plays singer Rayna James, “Queen of Country”, and battles it out with rising star Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panetierre). Nashville is filled with some seriously talented actors, emotional plotlines, and music that you find yourself singing 24/7.

“Sometimes I wish I could just do everything all over again.”

“What would you change?”

“Nothing. Everything.”

4.      Homeland (Showtime)

It seems like everyone is talking about Homeland these days, and they’re not without reason. Homeland is so different from anything that’s been on TV in a while, and the suspense of a show centered around the CIA and a bipolar agent trying to capture a terrorist is enough to leave you sufficiently drained at the end of every episode.

“You’re a disgrace to your nation, Sergeant Nicholas Brody. You’re a traitor and a terrorist, and now it’s time you pay for that.”

5.      Game of Thrones (HBO)

You have to begin watching Game of Thrones with an open mind, because it’s gory and sometimes there’s magic and it really is a bit odd. But the show, about noble families clashing in their pursuit to take the throne, is filled with intense action and strong characters that make for one addicting story.

“Never forget what you are. The rest of the world will not. Wear it like armor, and it can never be used to hurt you.”
