Meet Campus Celebrity Lauren Dakers!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USFSP chapter.
Meet this weeks USFSP Campus Celebrity, Lauren Dakers! She is currently the President of the Harborside Activities Board, has been a USFSP Orientation Leader multiple years, works for the Campus Recreation and much more!

What is your full name?

Lauren Dakers

What is your major?

Environmental Science & Policy, Leadership Studies Minor

What year are you in college?

Senior

What are you involved in here at USFSP and what made you decide to get involved?

I currently serve as President on the Harborside Activities Board, Orientation Leader and Team Leader at the Fitness Center. I decided to get involved on campus during the first semester of my Freshman year after attending my first HAB event-and it was all history from there!

How far have you come since the fall semester?

Since the fall semester, I feel as though I have learned to be more patient and open to the ideas of others and more diverse ways of thinking. I have also learned different ways of approaching the various obstacles in my life.

Were you in love with USFSP before you attended? Did you have a different expectation of it?

Yes! I came to visit USFSP during one of the Fall Open Houses and instantly fell in love! I was expecting a small “private-school” feel with the beauty of a campus on the water and I feel as though I got exactly what I was hoping for!

What are your plans for the future of being involved on campus?

Since I am a senior, I plan on helping to set up my organization (HAB) for future success so that when I come back in ten years, it is even more successful than it is now.

What advice could you give freshmen about college?

I would tell freshman to not be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try out something new! You’ve already paid for all of the services and activities offered on campus so you should at least try it out once before turning it down.

What changes do you think our school needs? Or should it stay the way it is?

I think our school is wonderful the way it is, but I would love it even more if the students had a more open mind about events and activities on campus. College is a time to try out various new things which also helps you to grow. Fear of trying new things only keeps you down.

What is one of the “Top 10 things to do” on your list before you die?

Travel around the world as a marine biologist and discover a new species of animal.

What motivates you to do your best?

My want to achieve my dreams and happiness as as well as my want to live a life that never has regrets is what motivates me to do my best. If I can die without one regret in my life then I will be able to say that I lived a successful life.

How has being involved in school helped you as an individual?

Being involved has helped me to grow more as a leader and become more comfortable in dealing with obstacles. I feel as though I have grown more as a person and am extremely happy with my earlier decisions to become involved.
