Dear HC BC,
I never really thought I was the type of person to gain the freshman 15. I mean, I’m not the healthiest eater and I don’t work out a ton, but it’s never been an issue before. Now that I’ve realized I’ve put on some weight, I’m a little worried about it. What can I do to get in better shape?
Not-So-Healthy Habits
Dear Not-So-Healthy Habits,
Definitely don’t worry about putting on a couple pounds. As long as you’re not at health risk, it should be fine. It’s super common to put on weight at college, especially freshman year. You’re not eating as healthy, you’re not sleeping as much, and it’s definitely harder to find time to work out. That being said, it’s nothing you can’t fix. If you feel uncomfortable with your current weight, there’s nothing wrong with making a few small changes. The key shouldn’t be losing weight, though. It should be getting healthy. Try taking the stairs to and from class to get a small work out in, or taking some classes at the Plex with your friends. Instead of something fried at late night, go for a salad or piece of fruit. Go for a walk or look up some fun workouts you can do in your dorm room. Just make sure you don’t overdo it, and stay healthy!
Good luck!
