There are always those people who seem to do it all- they are involved on campus, doing well in classes, and are always put together. Ciara Boeltz is one of those people. She is as focused on her academics as she is on being a Greek Sing chair and the head of recruitment for Kappa Kappa Gamma. She works three jobs and is a loyal, considerate friend.
Ciara has gained plenty of great leadership experience being a Greek Sing chair and says it “has been a really interesting experience” with a lot of planning involved. She loves what she is doing: working on musicals and choreographing are things she started doing in high school. She is having an amazing time watching the sisters of Kappa Kappa Gamma come together and “work towards a tangible goal with the brothers of Sigma Chi, all while raising money for the Children’s Institute.” Not only is Ciara’s work doing a wonderful thing for the Greek community, but she is also helping to put on a show that will raise thousands of dollars. Ciara admits it can get stressful at times- behind the scenes work is often forgotten. She spends her time attending meetings, writing the script, and planning rehearsals. At this point, her life is revolving around Greek Sing. But, she could not be more excited for the show and know it will definitely be worth it.

As recruitment chair for Kappa Kappa Gamma, Ciara is already planning for Formal Member Recruitment (FMR) in the fall of 2013. She was assistant membership chair and gained plenty of experience during that time. That position helped her feel prepared for the logistics of recruitment. She is “really excited to plan our workshops, sisterhood bonding events to bring our house together for formal recruitment, and the food (one of the best parts!).” She even admits that when she procrastinates, she spends time planning FMR, such as deciding what type of food should be served each night or the skit the house performs. Most of her job as recruitment chair will happen over the summer and in the first month of the fall semester but it is never too early to start!

And of course, Ciara is completely focused on her academics. As a double major in creative writing and decision science, she is trying to make the most of her time at CMU and make the most of her majors. This semester she is taking some writing and literature classes, as well as calculus and statistics. She has stepped out of her realm to take classes like “Bohemians and Other Cultural Rebels” and “The Roots of Rock & Roll” to help her become more well rounded.

Ciara says that her life revolves around Kappa, something that she truly loves. She is working three jobs, “I work at the Information Desk, Conferences and Event Services, and with the head of the University Center Room Reservations.” She definitely has plenty on her plate to keep her busy all semester. But, she tries to take time to do what she loves. She puts in time at Kappa planning Greek Sing and trying to help with Booth. Fun fact: Ciara could not use a drill before last year but not she is pretty decent at it! She spends her little free time catching up on TV shows and working out. Going for a run or journaling always help her de-stress.
