Boots for Winter Weather

Bean boots from L.L. Bean seem to be an increasingly popular footwear choice among Amherst students.  With their weather resistant leather and rubber chain-tread bottom, Bean boots are a great option for trekking across campus during the winter months.  For $99, the original pair comes in four different colors for women and three for men.  While the “Tan/Brown” is most prevalent, these boots match with almost any outfit no matter which color you choose.  Typically, people pair them with leggings or skinny jeans, but Bean boots come in varying heights to fit everyone’s own style and needs.  For a little extra $, you can add extra warmth with features such as Thinsulate Insulation, Gortex, or shearling-lining.

Hunter boots are great option for when it is raining or when there is leftover snow or slush covering the ground.   The original Welly currently comes in eight lovely colors, including merlot and graphite grey.  With their traction-gripping sole and glossy, rubber material, these boots help prevent you from slipping and keep your feet dry. They come in both a tall ($135) and short ($125) size.  For some additional warmth and flair, it is common to purchase Welly socks.  These fleece inserts come in many different patterns and colors that you roll over the top of boot.  While they provide extra comfort, they also allow you to spice up your boot.

Ugg boots have always faced much debate as to whether or not they are a quality shoe option.  Many people are not particularly fond of the style; however, something that cannot be denied is the warmth that the boot’s inner sheepskin provides.  While the outer suede is most definitely not water resistant, there are care products that can help you protect the shoe during the winter months.  There are so many different styles of Ugg boots, varying in color, height, and design, it seems that there is a one that can fit almost anybody’s tastes.
