The winter months can be difficult on your skin; the cold weather and overheated apartments can make for a tricky situation, but this doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t take care of your skin. I have always loved trying out new beauty products — from moisturizers to cleansers, and everything in between, I have definitely seen my share. I am, however, ashamed to say that until a few weeks ago I had never actually tried LUSH products!
You may have heard of them, or seen their stores around the city. Not only are LUSH products all handmade but each individual product also provides you with the name of the person who made it — as well as the expiration date — how cool is that?
I ventured into one of the LUSH store close to campus and saw for myself what all the hype was about — I was most certainly not disappointed!
1. Face masks:
LUSH has a huge variety of face masks and they are so fresh that they need to be refrigerated at all time. Made with fresh fruits and vegetables, cleansing clays, soothing butters and finest oils, LUSH facemasks are a winter necessity!
Smooth a generous amount of the fresh facemask over clean, dry skin, avoiding the eyes and the mouth. Leave the mask on for about 10-15 minutes, or just enough time to let the active ingredients do their job, and then rinse. Try to remove the mask before it completely dries up — it will be a lot easier to remove. Apply toner and moisturizer and your skin will have a silky smooth glow!
I tried “Catastrophe Cosmetic” facemask last week and I am already addicted.
LUSH recommendation: “Sacred Truth” and “Catastrophe Cosmetic” for the face mask newbie. Both masks are nutrient packed for bright-revitalized skin, and Catastrophe Cosmetics blueberry extracts are the perfect dose of vitamins and antioxidants for sensitive skin.
2. Cleanser:
“Let the good times roll” was recommended to me by one of the LUSH ladies and I have to say I absolutely love with this product. Usually I am pretty skeptical when it comes to cleansers and as someone with mixed skin (dry in some areas and oily in my t-zone), this cleanser really does the trick! This cleanser is made out of polenta, which helps scrub away dead skin, corn oil which helps soften your skin, and cinnamon to warm up your complexion. After using this cleanser for a week now, my skin feels completely rejuvenated. Use once or twice a day — this one is a keeper!
3. Shampoo and conditioner:
I was never one to really be picky about my shampoo and conditioner, but I decided to venture out of my comfort zone and try LUSH’s all natural shampoo and conditioner. Not only does my hair smell amazing (you know that feeling when you can actually smell the scent of your hair — love it!), but also these all-natural and preservative free products will leave your hair with a healthy shine.

4. Body Butter:
Moisturizer and lotion is a must, especially during those winter months, and LUSH offers a variety of neat hydrating products that will make you skin feel silky smooth. I am usually one to put my body butter on after the shower, but it was recommended that I try their “in shower” body buffer, “the Buffy.” The Buffy is a body butter that encompasses everything that LUSH is all about. Their collection of solid body butters allow you to exfoliate and moisturize while still in the shower. Filled with cocoa and shea butters, these babies will leave you skin moisturized and hydrated all day long.

5. Bath bombs:
I know what you are thinking — when was the last time you took a bath? Bath time is no longer for little kids and rubber duckies. Baths a perfect way to relax and take some “me” time, all you need are the right products to set the mood. LUSH is known for their bath bomb handmade creation, resulting in long and luxurious soaks that capture the imagination — and boy do they ever! I had my first bath bomb experience the other night with the “Dragon’s Egg mystical sherbet bomb.” This bath bomb unleashes quite the colourful experience, with unexpected sound effects and bursts off fruity scents that kept me guessing for over ten minutes.
Pop in a bath bomb, light some candles, and play some relaxing music — the perfect remedy for those midterm blues.
