Your Facebook status went from “in a relationship” to “single” in January, and now your dateless for Valentine’s Day. Thinking about picking up the phone to call your ex? Don’t do it! I know having plans for Valentine’s Day is always exciting, but here are five reasons why you should not get back together with your ex-boyfriend for the holiday.
You’re just lonely:
Do you really want him back, or are you just lonely? Don’t let this “Hallmark Holiday” change your mind about being single. Only time can heal loneliness, and going on a date with him will just prolong you getting over him. Do yourself a favor and embrace this “me time.”
It will give him the wrong impression:
Did you break up with him? Don’t make him think he has a standing chance getting back together with you. Chances are you broke up with him for a reason, so don’t waste your time when you know it’s not going to work out. Sure, the free diner is a bonus, but don’t lead him on.
Valentine’s Day is overrated:
Wine and chocolate with your girlfriends is way better than a mediocre dinner with your ex-boyfriend. Wouldn’t you rather be out with your single ladies anyways? We get so caught up in the holiday that we would rather go out on a date with someone who is a jerk than no one at all. You shouldn’t feel obligated to go the traditional fancy dinner-and-a-movie route; Valentine’s Day is overrated.
It will give him the upper hand:
Did he hurt you? Don’t make him think you still need him! You are way too good to go out with your ex, especially if he was dumb enough to dump you. Now let’s think about this.… Does he want you back, or does he want a guaranteed hookup?
It will bring you two steps back:
If you are getting close to getting over your ex, the last thing you want to do is go on a date with him. If you get hurt (and knowing him, it’s definitely possible) you are not doing yourself any favors. Getting over a guy is hard enough as it is; you need to move forward with your life, not backward. Going on a date with high expectations will only bring you two steps back when your date doesn’t pull through.
You’re single. So what? You don’t need a date on Valentine’s Day, especially if he is your ex-boyfriend. Take some time to reflect on why the relationship ended. Is he worth the stress of getting back together?
