MoHo Welcomes Nemo

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mt Holyoke chapter.

First, there was Sandy, and now Nemo.  While many students were thrilled that classes have been canceled for Friday, there were other difficulties throughout the weekend with two feet of snow, such as getting to dining halls and lack of resources due to the library closing.  Whatever the difficulties may have been, here some some of the best ways students spent their snow days.

1.  Catch up on sleep.  Even an extra half-hour nap during the day was enough to offset the sleep deprivation that many of us face increasingly throughout the semester.  Without classes on Fridays, students were able to realx on Thursday night until the wee-hours and sleep-in on Friday morning without worries.  As the snow began to fall increasingly throughout the day, many students were stuck inside, which most used to their advantage to snuggle in bed and watch movies.  Despite the lack of productivity, everyone can come to a general consensus that extra sleep was a much needed break.

2.  Getting ahead (or catching up) on work.  Those 200-page readings for a political science course or the 100 psets for physics, the extra 24-hour and too-snowy weekend was a way to keep students inside by their desks to get things done.  In addition, many events like China Night and Drag Ball were canceled, which should have more or less increase your day’s productivity – in addition to the extra sleep.  Some professors moved due dates to accommodate the cancelation of classes on Friday, which gave many the extra time to polish off their work.

3.  Play in the snow!  The more exciting option than the two above, most students chose to venture outside for photos and other activities.  The Delles hill was full of students with anything from cardboard boxes, trays, sleds, to toboggans.  There were students from the Outing Club, as well as many others who decided to take advantage of the abundant snow from Nemo.  Aside from sledding down the Delles hill, there was cross-country skiing at the golf course and spontaneous snowball fights on the green.

4.  Lounge around.  Since students often don’t get a day off during the semester, Friday was a great way to do absolutely nothing – or at least, nothing productive.  It was a day to catch up on the favorite T.V. shows – like Hart of Dixie – or read a book that has no relevancy to your academic courses for the pure joy of reading.  This weekend was truly great for sticking around in pajamas and having a cup of warm tea in bed.

Needless to say, this weekend was also disappointing to some who were looking forward to Drag Ball and China Night.  But nevertheless, everyone without a doubt appreciated the 3 relaxing days of Nemo.
