As the excitement of the Inauguration winds down, Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! While flowers and chocolate are typical Valentine’s Day fare, Washington, DC has much more to offer for those couples looking to do something a little less typical on this romantic occasion. Read on to find date ideas to fit any couple’s style:
For the Drinking Couple:
- Cupid’s Bar Crawl
- Take a shot (literally) at love and make your way through some of DC’s most popular bars in Dupont Circle on Saturday, February 9th. Participants are encouraged to dress for the theme—come dressed as Cupid, a heart: you decide! Tickets are $15 in advance, and $20 on the day of the event.
Â
For the Mischievous Couple:
- “Crimes of Passion” at the Crime and Punishment Museum
- Get close—very close—to your Valentine’s Day date as you take a handcuffed tour of the museum on February 14th or 16th and experience a special Crimes of Passion exhibit! Indulge in a romantic treat and take home your own pair of souvenir handcuffs. For an even deeper experience, venture to the museum on February 15th in the evening to experience the museum after dark—the more in-depth experience includes interactive crime stations, prison tattoos, and much more!

For the Animal-Loving Couple:
- Woo at the Zoo
- For the animal-loving couple (with a sense of humor), venture to the National Zoo on February 9th to experience Woo at the Zoo. This experience offers guests “an opportunity to learn about animal mating, dating and reproductive habits in an honest and humorous forum.” In addition to a live animal demonstration, participants can also decorate a sweet treat and indulge in hors d’oeuvres!

For the Charitable Couple:
- Cupid’s Undie Run
- Strip to your skivvies for a good cause in a 1.1 mile fun run around the US Capitol Building! Warm up before and afterward at the historic Pour House Bar and Grill, and prizes will be given out for those who fundraise for the event. If you’d rather spectate, cheer from the sidelines as competitors “put the hilarity in charity.”
Â
For the Adventurous Couple:
- Valentine’s Day Weekend at Terrapin Adventures
- Not for the faint of heart, this adrenaline-filled adventure lies 30 minutes outside of DC, but is well worth the trip. Soar to new heights on zip lines, ropes courses, and more! Couples will be eligible to win prizes and can warm up with hot chocolate (and each other) too.
