Coming back this semester I have noticed that there is an obscene amount of students sick with the flu. Our busy schedules are hard on our bodies, and we forget to take good care of ourselves. I have come up with ten easy tips to help everyone stay healthy this flu season!
- Drink LOTS of water.
Water is what keeps our bodies functioning properly. When we don’t have enough water, our bodies become dehydrated and our immune systems aren’t able to fight germs the way they should!
Â
- Sleep
All college students suffer from lack of sleep. Our schedules are packed with school, friends, and yes, a social life. We often run on hardly any sleep, which will come back to bite us in the ass eventually. Sleep is what helps our bodies repair themselves. Not enough sleep slows down the activity of white blood cells, meaning the chance of getting an infection is much more likely.
Â
- Eat healthy!
Vegetables and fruits have many nutrients and vitamins that help to keep our immune systems happy and our bodies healthy.
Â
- Load up on Vitamin C!
Vitamin C helps the immune system to do its job and will help you stay healthy during the winter months.
Â
- Wash your hands very frequently!
With so many students on campus, there will always be the chance of catching an infection. If we all wash our hands frequently, we will reduce the chance of spreading germs to one another.
Â
- Reduce Stress
Stress has become such a big part of college students’ lives that we never realize how harmful the effects can be on our bodies. Remember to take a minute out of our busy days to do something that we enjoy and that will reduce stress.
Â
- Exercise!
Get out of that cozy bed and head to the SAC. Exercise helps to keep our bodies in good shape to fight those nasty infections.
Â
- Stay home!
If you are sick stay home and rest. Prevent the spread of your sickness to friends and the rest of campus.Â
