Let’s be honest, it isn’t exactly easy to stay fit during winter break. Between holiday parties, home cooked meals and seasonal coffee drinks, you may find your sweater fitting a little on the snug side.
Now that you’re back at school, the gym is most likely overflowing with girls trying to maintain their New Year’s resolutions. I don’t know about you, but sometimes I just do not have the time in my schedule to wait 20 minutes for an elliptical. In the meantime, try sneaking some effortless exercises into your daily routine.
These five easy tips will help you shed those extra pounds you packed on just in time for spring break:
1. Take the stairs
Bypass the awkward elevator time in your dorm or apartment building by opting for the stairs instead. Stairs aren’t really your thing? No problem. Compromise by taking them at least one way, up or down. If you’re in a rush, taking the stairs on the way down may actually be faster than waiting for the elevator. You’ll work up a quick sweat and you’ll be on your way to a fabulous behind in no time.
2. Park far away
Instead of circling the parking lot around and around looking for an open spot, try parking as far away as possible. I’m talking that area where there are rows of empty spaces that remain untouched every day of the year except Black Friday. Not only will your ride be safe from car doors and scratches, but you’ll also give yourself some added cardio as you walk to the store. Plus, the more things you buy, the heavier your bags will be. This is prime time to tone up your arms (talk about motivation).
3. Ditch the bus
Forgo the flying backpacks and leave the crowded bus behind. Walking to class instead is a great opportunity for some added cardio. It’s the perfect time to listen to the new playlist you put on your iPod or call and catch up with your grandparents. It’s a win-win for everybody.
4. Get a Shake Weight
You may look silly while doing it, but I highly recommend investing in a Shake Weight. They’re cheap and effective. You can find them just about anywhere and they are a great way to tone your arms and shoulders. Why not “shake” while catching up on your weekly TV shows? It’s mindless, and nobody has to see any possible awkwardness.
5. Dance
There’s no better way to exercise than a night out on the town with your girlfriends. Put on your little black dress and hike up your heels. The higher your shoes are, the more toned your calves, thighs and glutes will be. Try to steer clear of sugary beverages and stick to water to keep you hydrated. Time will go by so fast you won’t even notice your breaking a sweat. So, dance away the calories and have a great time while doing so.
