Hometown: Miami, Florida
Major: American Studies
Minor: Business
Her Campus: I know you are involved with a lot of things on campus. Can you first tell me about your experience as a part of Student Events?
Sivan Levine: I was born to Wake and Shake! I’ve been a part of Student Events since my second semester sophomore year. I started out as a coordinator on the public relations department, and I moved around to other departments over time. Now I’m the department director for PR. SE has been a huge part of my Brandeis experience and I love it so much and I especially love the SE staff! I applied because I thought that SE looked like a lot of fun and it became something I enjoy doing. I prioritize SE, not my classes!Â
HC: What about your experiences with Chabad? And weren’t you just elected president of Chabad?
SL: This past semester I was on the Chabad student board, which was a lot of fun! It was cool seeing how Chabad at Brandeis operates behind the scenes and I really enjoyed planning and attending their events. Yes, I am the new Chabad president for Spring 2013, because Mitchell Schwartz is sadly going abroad. I’m very excited (and a little nervous) for an awesome semester!Â
HC: To top it all off you are an orientation leader—tell us more—what is your favorite part about being an OL?
SL: This was my first year being an orientation leader and it was so much fun! I’m also going to be a Midyear Mentor for spring orientation, which is extra exciting because I was a midyear! My favorite part is definitely meeting a lot of new people! I made some really great friends and it was just an overall great experience!
HC: With all of those extracurricular, how do you make time for yourself? What are some things you do for fun?
SL: Time for myself? What’s that? Just kidding! I like to listen to stand-up comedy, that’s basically what I do to unwind. I really just love laughing and I try to do that as much as possible. I also like to dance. I’m the farthest thing from good, but I don’t even care.Â
HC: What is your dream job? How do you plan on using your major and minor to leverage that?
SL: My dream job is to be Lena Dunham, the creator and star of the HBO series “Girls.” I just want to be her. I don’t plan on using my major or minor—I plan on using the unique set of skills I acquired at Brandeis. For example, I learned how to channel and own my awkwardness, I learned how to really eat my feelings, and I never learned how to not have uncomfortable encounters with everyone. It’s a good plan, right?
HC: As a second semester senior, and a fellow midyear, what advice would you give to the incoming freshman?
SL: Be yourself. (I said that like the mom from Just Friends, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…). Laugh a lot. Own Sherman. I’m so good at Sherman- a true skill.Â
HC: Lastly, can you tell us why you love glitter?
SL: Do I need to have a reason why? It sparkles, it’s pretty, it makes me feel good like a princess or a fairy, it shines, it’s fun to play with, it makes things better, put it on a poster and BAM!, it’s more awesome. Glitter is just real peoples’ fairy dust. It looks like magic.Â
