How to Survive the Holidays

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

We have now survived finals: Financial Accounting and Chem,

Packed up our bags and gone home to childhood friends.

Christmas is looming, floating snowflakes and cheer,

Sitting by the fire, no more Bio tests to fear.

But the holidays can be tricky; they’re such little pests

When they become tense, overwhelming, and the new cause of stress.

Mother needs help, and father needs silence

When sister stains your sweater, there’s bound to be violence.

Auntie Fay smells strongly like drugstore perfume,

While ol’ Uncle Ted simply reeks of raccoon.

They stay at your house much longer than invited

And when Maury comes on, they get oh so excited!

There are presents to buy and parties to attend

Ex-boyfriends to awkwardly run into and then

With no time for solitude, relaxation or fun

We will start to wonder, “Oh what have we done?

I wish I were back home in my 8-man in 90

So I could escape from this madness and no one could find me!”

But fear not, my friend, Her Campus BC knows

How to make the holidays less of a sh*tshow!

Take a deep breath, then maybe a bath

You can’t soak in BC’s tubs, you’d def get a rash.

So load up the salts and the candles and tunes,

And dream of Santa in his oxblood pantaloons.

While slipping away into Holiday Bliss

And then watch Elf, that’s not one to miss!

After Will Ferrell finds his dad at last,

Try helping someone else out, even if it’s real fast

By enabling another’s good spirit and joy

You’ll realize Christmas means more than just toys

Or Michael Kors watches or Ray Bans or vests

Or “Hey-Look-I-Got-More-From-Santa-Claus” fests.

We make the season about so much that it’s not

So make sure to step back and remember all that you’ve got.

We are thankful for you, dear readers and friends

And wish you the Happiest of Holidays that you get to spend

It with those whom you love and cherish and miss

And that you get at least one good mistletoe kiss!

Remember the meaning of this season we have

And it won’t be a burden, no, it will be grand!
