Now, I know HerCampus is an online magazine predominantly targeted towards female University students, with its girly pink background on the website, and its articles focusing on fashion, love and relationships amongst many other topics, but I donât believe there arenât some guys out there who have a sneaky peak whilst in the privacy of their own room. And Iâm sure some of those boyfriends out there are reading this now thinking yes, yes okay, just get to the point â what on earth do I get my girlfriend for Christmas?!
- Jewellery
This is always a winner. Always. No matter how long youâve been together, a pretty, delicate necklace/bracelet/pair of earrings is guaranteed to be welcomed with not only a huge sigh of relief but also delight when opened on Christmas morning. I would say the price one would spend would usually depend on how long youâve been together, as you donât want to scare her off by spending hundreds of pounds on diamond earrings 2 weeks into your relationship, when sheâs bought you a ÂŁ40 Jack Wills top⊠Donât make the lady feel bad now. One of my favourite silver jewellery shops in Exeter is the little one down Gandy St near the turn off for the Cavern, and just along past Rampant Sporting. You can find all sorts of beautiful silver pieces, from ÂŁ15 to ÂŁ100, so for any price range. Another idea is if your girlfriend has a charm bracelet, to get her a new charm, one that has been specially chosen by you that represents something between you both like a memory, or just a sign that you love her and want to show her by adding a heart charm to her bracelet! Pandora also do lovely [stacking] rings at a reasonable price, which would go down a treat if your girlfriend is used to wearing rings.
- Clothing
Is your girlfriend a real party girl? If so, Iâm sure sheâll appreciate a new glitzy top for going out over the Christmas holidays with all her girls, or to wear out to dinner with you on a special Christmas date. Venture from Topman into Topshop and take a look at all the pretty tops or if your girlfriend prefers more pretty daytime styles, Zara and Jack Wills do some gorgeous lacy tops at the moment, and both stores have great selections in their Exeter stores in town.
- Scent
Is her perfume bottle running low? Take a look next time youâre in her bedroom and take note of what it is (and whether you love her wearing it⊠if not you may want to consider branching out to a different scent!), and then get to Boots, Debenhams or House of Fraser in town. What I found really special about last Christmas was asking for a specific new perfume, and actually receiving the box set of that scent, so the body cream and shower gel that smells like it too. Some of my favourite scents from a personal point of view are Daisy by Marc Jacobs, Euphoria by Calvin Klein and Chloe by Chloe. But if in doubt, go with what your girl is used to wearing.
- A Weekend Away
What better way to look forward to the New Year than opening an envelope to find youâve planned the perfect weekend away for you and your girl. Be it to Cornwall to stay in a little cottage near the cove in Polzeath, or to an apartment in France overlooking the stunning city of Paris, your girlfriend will be overjoyed by the fact that youâve researched into somewhere to go together as a break away from the hustle and bustle of Uni life. You can find some fantastic deals on lastminute.com and also Groupon. If you really research, when looking for just 2 people for a weekend there is so much out there!
- Assortment of gifts.
If youâre on a pretty low budget this year what with Term 1 rinsing you of your student loan, you could scour the high streets for around 10 (or less) really mini gifts that really remind you of your girlfriend. Things you could include in the âlucky dipâ that my housemate did for her boyfriend this year, are things like her favourite food/drink â for example if they love a certain type of dish, an ingredient that is part of it, or if, like me, she is a hot chocolate obsessed, then a pot of Cadburyâs hot chocolate. Another idea is a piece of underwear (that doesnât have to cost much if you get it from the high street stores of Topshop/New Look/Accessorize); a pretty pair of earrings; a cute pair of socks⊠You get the idea â just little tokens that show youâve put time into her present if you havenât got millions of pounds to buy her a diamond ring.
I hope that, having read this, guys will be more ready and proud to click on the HCX links appearing all over their newsfeed, due to the fact that weâve solved their problems for the season. Hopefully they will still have someone to kiss under the mistletoe this Christmas, having succeeded in finding the perfect gift for their girlfriend! Good luck! HCXO
