Top 10 Winter Necessities

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tufts chapter.

Alright, Collegiettes, it’s that time of year again! You know, time to pull out the boxes from under our beds and unload all of our winter clothes. Whether you’re from out of town or just around the corner, you may know that you think just what is necessary to challenge the New England winter’s frosty bite. In addition to a pea coat and a snuggle buddy, however, there are a few more accessories you won’t want to go without. Here are our top ten must-haves for this winter:

1) Headphone Earmuffs

What better way to keep your ears warm while listening to your favorite songs than with these cozy (but stylish!) Juicy Couture earmuffs? The headphones are built into the super comfortable earmuffs, and they plug into any MP3 player.

2) Touchscreen Gloves

These gloves are just what you need to make it from point A to point B without having to stop text that cutie from last night. Touchscreen Gloves by Echo allow you to keep using your smart phone without feeling like your fingers might fall off.

3) Knit Sweater

Stay cozy while studying in Tisch with this Wilfred Free sweater! Warm and cute, it allows you to both stay comfortable and look good with little effort.

4) Furry Booties

It can be hard to find the right shoes to go with an outfit as it is, and in the winter we often find ourselves weighing comfort and warmth against cuteness and style. Problem: solved! These Tory Burch booties will keep your feet warm, while catching the eye of your fellow fashion-conscious Collegiettes.

5) Trapper Hat

Your head, ears, forehead, and neck will be completely cold free with this trapper hat by ASOS. It’s the perfect finishing touch on any outfit to take you from uphill to downhill (or vice versa).

6) Lip Moisturizer

I don’t know about you, but here in the Northeast my skin easily becomes dry, and my lips, chapped. For a quick fix and long-lasting moisture, I turn to this Chanel lip balm, which completely rejuvenates your lips, without leaving them sticky or unkissable.

7) Thigh-High Socks

Layering leggings beneath your primary pair of pants can be bulky, uncomfortable, and damn near impossible to fit. C’mon, girls – long underwear is for skiing, not for walking around campus. So ditch the second skin, and use these thigh-high socks from American Apparel for all the extra warmth you need.

8) Neck Warmer

One of the worst parts of walking around in the winter is having snow seep in between where your jacket ends and your hat begins. Try this Adrienne Landau neck warm to give your winter look some serious style, and while keeping your skin nice and toasty.

9) Nail Polish

You can never go wrong when accessorizing with Deborah Lippmann nail polish! “Almost Paradise” will remind you of sunshine in the midst of the season’s short days, while “Don’t Tell Mama” will add some edginess to your winter look.

10) Fracket

Even though the snow is here, that doesn’t mean the parties will stop. (We hope!) The best way to get from your room to wherever you’re going at night is with a warm jacket that is cheap enough that you can just toss onto a couch at your destination, without having to spend all night worrying about its condition. We love this jacket from Wet Seal for $19.99, but you also might want to look at options from Value Village or The Buffalo Exchange.
