Meet my friend and Pitt’s latest campus celeb of the week, Leah Klocke. Gorgeous, smart, and will probably become one of the most successful/rule the world out of all the people I know. It’s no question why I chose someone who embodies all the qualities a Pitt girl represents; being strong, independent, confident, and a sweetheart all around.
Year: Junior
Major: Political Science, Global Studies Certificate, and Women Studies Certificate
Clubs: VOX: Student Voices for Planned Parenthood, Campus Women Organization and Emerging Leaders
HC: What is VOX and what is your position in the organization?
Leah: VOX is an advocacy organization for Planned Parenthood and education. I am the treasurer of VOX.
HC: What is the main goal you guys want to accomplish for VOX?
Leah: We want to increase awareness and education for Planned Parenthood and reproductive health across Pitt’s campus. We want to increase the concept of “safe sex” across campus.
HC: What is the message you want to get across campus?
Leah: Wear a condom! People think getting an STD or becoming pregnant won’t happen to them, only to others. Unfortunately, that is not the case.
HC: How can students get involved with VOX?
Leah: We have meetings every other Monday in the WPU at 8:45. We have a Facebook page as well as tabling. We also try to schedule informative and interesting events, such as bringing in Planned Parenthood, Pittsburgh’s Aids Task Force, invite professors from Pitt’s Women’s Studies Program, Allegheny Reproductive Center, and more.
HC: Nice! So Miss Leah, lucky girl, you are studying abroad next semester, where are you going?
Leah: I am doing Pitt Map: Brazil, China, and India.
HC: Where else have you traveled, and what was your favorite part?
Leah: I have done study abroad Greece, Jordan, and in high school I went to Paraguay and Australia. My favorite part was the incredibly delicious food and meeting awesome people.
HC: What are you most excited about?
Leah: Meeting people that live in these countries and getting to know their perspectives on different topics.
HC: Do you have any advice on what it takes to be a strong woman in college?
Leah: Be your own person and know that you don’t need another person to stand on your own
