Dear HC Fitness Readers,
If you know me, you know I’m a lover of diet soda. I admit that I am rather addicted to having at least one Coke Zero (and most often more than one) everyday. But the other day as I was making the climb from my house to Buntrock, I was looking at the back of the can, reading the ingredients, and thought: “What am I putting into my body?”
The can reads no calories, but all of these scientific words can’t scream, “Drink this to be the healthiest person ever!” So, the next day I decided to quit drinking diet soda cold turkey. Was it successful? I’d like to say yes, but around 7:30 p.m. I decided that even though I had made it that far, I wouldn’t be able to stay up to finish my literature review. Well, maybe quitting cold turkey isn’t the smartest thing to do when you are reliant on caffeine; however, I’m doing a slow cut-back. My goal? By the end of the semester when I hear the words “diet soda,” I won’t feel like I need it.
With this said, I decided to look at the myths of diet soda and see what are the facts, to keep me motivated. One of the issues I have always been aware of is drinking soda in excess, which I do, prevents you from losing weight. As much as I don’t want to believe this, I think there is some definite truth to it. That’s just another reason why I want to lose the “Oh, she always has a diet coke with her” from my daily identity. I know I can do it – it will just take a lot of sweat equity. Below are some articles that I suggest reading.
So until next week, Fram Fram!
