My obsession with unhealthy fast food restaurant fries has ended. I usually eat pretty healthy, but fries are my weakness. Luckily, I came across a recipe for a healthier version of homemade fries. This recipe is easy and you will fall in love with the results. Once you’ve mastered making these, play around with different ingredients to find the perfect fry for your tastes.
Ingredients:
1 potato
Extra virgin olive oil
Oregano
Black pepper
Seasoned salt
Â
Directions:
Begin preheating the oven to 425 degrees. As the oven is heating, wash off your potato and prepare to cut it. I try to keep mine a half-inch thick, but it’s up to you. The thicker they are, the longer they take to cook in the oven.
I like to keep the skin on the potato because it adds a different flavor, but it is your choice if you aren’t a fan of the skin.
After your potatoes are cut, you have to choice to soak them in hot water for 10-30 minutes. This allows the potatoes to become crispier. Initially I used to soak my potatoes, but now I find it’s unnecessary unless your potatoes are thicker.
Put the potatoes in a large bowl and combine the extra virgin olive oil, oregano, black pepper and seasoned salt until every potato is evenly coated.
After this step is complete, line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and spray it with PAM cooking spray. The aluminum foil allows for less cleanup mess.
Place the potatoes on the baking sheet in a single layer. Put them in the oven on the rack closet to the bottom. Allow them to bake for 25 minutes. After 25 minutes, take them out of the oven and flip them. There may be some fries that are done if they were sliced thinner than the rest. If this happens, take them out and place them in a napkin to allow the excess EVOO to soak into the napkin.
Once the fries are flipped, put them back in the oven for 10 minutes.
When the fries come out they should be done and ready for you to enjoy. Just make sure you drain the excess oil off of them by placing them on the napkin.Â
Enjoy these fries with anything you can think of preparing them with. These are less fattening than the original “fried” fries.Â
