This season has been a rough one for our beloved Tigers. In the wake of an unbelievable 2010 season, in which adored quarterback Cam Newton led the undefeated team to our first National Championship in 53 years, the program is struggling to find success.  No one expected the Tigers to come back and be the same powerhouse team, but I can guarantee not one fan thought the 2012 season would be quite this disappointing.

Last night’s game against the Georgia Bulldogs essentially summed up the season. The Bulldogs shut out the Tigers, no matter how hard the young team tried it just wasn’t enough. The only player who seemed to show up to the game was freshman quarterback Jonathan Wallace, the game marking his first SEC start. He ended up rushing for 181 yards and completing 15 of his 22 passes, but without the help of the offense the Tigers ended up scoreless. With 8 losses, 2 wins, and 3 quarterbacks switched around, the outlook for the next two games is looking bleak.  Auburn hosts Alabama A&M this Saturday, a team with a 7-3 record, before heading to Bryant-Denny Stadium for the annual Iron Bowl. Even with the Crimson Tide’s fall to the Aggies, Alabama is still infinitely stronger than Auburn, making defeat almost imminent.

This season has left the Auburn Family with many unanswered questions—why, after intense preparation, do the Tigers keep falling short? How did a team that had a chance at beating LSU get demolished by Texas A&M and Georgia? And, most importantly, will head coach Gene Chizik be given another chance at leading the weak team?

So far, fans have yet to learn the fate of much-loved Coach Chizik. His impact on the program hasn’t been completely negative—he brought us Heisman winner Newton, led the Tigers to the BCS Championship, held the team at an 8-5 record last season, and clinched a win in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl. But the current record of 2-8, without a single SEC win, has every member of the Auburn Family questioning what’s to come for Tiger Football. Only one thing is for certain—we are a family, we will always love our Tigers, and whether we win or lose we are always proud to say War Eagle!
