Health Blog: Five New Fitness Crazes Everyone Should Try

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois chapter.

1. The Bar Method

The Bar Method is a ballet-like, strength-training workout that you must try! Barre is a fat-burning, interval-training workout that works on the strengthening of deeper muscles all over to promote toning in more visible areas of the body. Its focus on elongating the body creates slim muscle. If you are looking for a toning workout without adding bulk, barre is the best workout for you!

2. Piloxing

If you are looking for a high-intensity, cardio-strength workout, piloxing, a cross between pilates and boxing, is perfect for you! Combining moves from both pilates and boxing, piloxing is a core-centered, fat-burning cardio workout that will definitely make you sweat. With the use of weighted gloves, piloxing also tones and strengthens muscles in your arms and back. If you are up for a challenge, definitely give piloxing a try!

3. Flirty Girl Fitness

Flirty Girl Fitness is not only a workout, but also a way of life! The classes focus on strengthening and toning through yoga, boxing, belly dancing and many more methods. The goal that the creators of Flirty Girl Fitness want is to get women to want to work out because it is fun rather than feeling like they have to work out just to lose weight or look better. Through the use of fun music and different types of exercise, Flirty Girl Fitness will leave you wanting more!

4. Tabatas

For all of you out there who are looking for a quick but efficient workout, tabatas is exactly what you need. By combining 20 seconds of high intensity intervals paired with 10 seconds of rest, you can complete an entire tabatas workout in just 4 minutes! Tabatas can improve your anaerobic capacity and in return you can begin to burn more fat than you would in a 60 minute workout. To get started, try any cardio activity as hard as you can for 20 seconds and then take a 10 second break; do 8 rounds, and there you have it: a full tabatas workout! Here is an example for you to try:

5. TRX Training

TRX is probably the most well known of these new crazes, but it is also one of the harder ones. Focusing solely on strength training, TRX uses only your body weight to complete a full suspension strength workout. There are many different ways you can use the suspension trainer to get an all over body workout, and when used properly with your own body weight, you can make the exercises harder or easier. Check out this video for a better look at TRX to see if it is something for you!
