HC Miami’s Favorite Dining Halls

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Miami (OH) chapter.

One of the best things about Miami University is the food. Before going to college, I had heard my fair share of dining hall nightmares from my older brother and his friends. Admittedly, I was nervous about the food when I was first coming to college, but after having lived on campus for 2 years, my thoughts are now quite the contrary. Now as a junior, I miss the little things about our dining halls, like a good Harris breakfast or a pizza from Scott. So, here is my list of my favorite dining halls and why I love them so much.

Dividends: Everyone on this campus knows of Dividends and their award winning noshings. Often, the lines will be stretched down the halls of the business school, and the funny thing is, people still wait in them! The FSB salad is loved so much on this campus that they took the concept and put another salad station in hot Scott. Dividends is a perfect mix of breakfast and lunch food–and serving Starbucks coffee adds a lot to its popularity. From the array of foods, to the cleverly named stations (such as Panini Portfolio, Fiscal Grind, Asian Market, and Traders Greens), this business style cafĂ© serves perfectly for students of all types.

Hot Scott: Living on central quad last year fed my addiction of hot Scott. Now with the added salad bar, it makes it the perfect lunch or dinner location. The mix of selections they now have can cater to any palate, with stir-fry, salad, subs, or a pizza. My favorite thing at hot Scott are the personal pizzas because they are the perfect size and are made when you order, so you know they are always fresh. The other thing I love about hot Scott is its perfect location. If you have class on the Spring Street side of campus, it is super close to pop over and grab a quick bite between classes.

Hamilton: What I love about Hamilton is the feeling of eating a good “home cooked” meal. The food that they cook at Hamilton fits perfectly with the idea that they want to serve good home comfort food. The two things I love about Hamilton are the waffle maker and the plethora of vegetarian options. First, everyone gets in those moods when they want a waffle, and it always tends to be not during breakfast. At Hamilton, you can make Waffles any time they are open for business. Second, I love the fact that they have a large selection of vegetarian options and not just side dishes, but entrees as well.

Harris: There is nothing in this world like a good Harris breakfast. During the weekend, which is the time that most students find they can actually go and get a sit-down morning meal, Harris keeps its breakfast open till 2 pm. What I love about their breakfast selection is that they always change it up, mixing in different starches and meats so each day there is something new. I also love he array of food, from the traditional American breakfast foods of eggs and meats to the selection of breakfast pastries and a large fruit bar.

While I only gave my opinion on a few of my favorites, there are lots of other places around campus that serve amazing food. The dining experience at Miami is one of the best around, so I urge you to get out and explore some of the scrumptious food Miami has to offer you.
