Rich Rod: Where Have You Been All My Life?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Arizona chapter.

I’m not a superstitious person by any means. Iv literally never seen a
shooting star in my 21 years of existence, seven years of bad luck just for breaking a
mirror seems a tad excessive, and no, I’m not going to pick up dirty pennies off the
ground. Explain to me how someone else’s unwanted spare change could possibly
bring me any luck even if it is “heads up”…unless I brought it to coin star something.

Regardless, I already know that by writing this I’m jinxing everything.

I am on my fourth year of college and I thought I could predict what our
football team would do by now because it has been the same thing for the past two
years. If, and ONLY if, we managed to pull off something worth mentioning, the team
never failed to follow it up with a miserable fail.

After a shaky win against Toledo, (who is that?), no thanks to our kicker
(sounds familiar), I was all kinds of given up on our football team. Literally was
walking around University the day of the Oklahoma St. game wearing my Arizona
shirt and feeling zero school pride. I am the worst fan ever, I know. Surprisingly, we
pulled off the win against the then, 18th ranked team and our kicker didn’t even miss
the entire game. Honestly though, I still had no faith. How typical would it have been
of Arizona football to join the top 25 ranked teams one week, and follow it up by
losing to South Carolina St. the following week?

After we actually played to our level and goose egged SC State I guess its time
for me to quit being such a hater and start having a little more school pride. Arizona
is still sitting pretty at the no. 22 ranked team in the nation two weeks after the OK
St. upset.

New coach, Rich Rod is starting his first wildcat season off with a record
of 3-0 entering into conference play and senior Matt Scott, starting quarterback,
is handling the pressure after waiting patiently in the shadows of Nick Foles. It is
definitely a new era for wildcat football and though this team has its fair share of
stand out players, this season is different in the aspect that we aren’t relying solely
on star quality. In the past couple of seasons it has been up to players such as Juron
Criner and Foles to make the majority of the big offensive plays.

This year, players such as Ka’deem Carey, Dan Buckner and sophomore stand
out Austin Hill are becoming key elements to the new fast paced offense initiated
into play by Rich Rod. Though this is one of the few times in Arizona football history
we have entered into conference play with an all winning record, the upcoming
game on Saturday is the toughest meeting our up and coming team has yet to
encounter. The wildcats will face off in their first away game against the no.2 ranked
Oregon Ducks. Kick off is at 7:30, Saturday the 22nd and will be aired on ESPN.

Before I say anything to jinx it more then I probably already have, drink up, bear
down, and enjoy the game, Wildcats.
