The University of Ottawa’s Guide to … Low on funds? No problem! Here is your guide to great eats & cheap treats!
Pinching pennies? Scrounging up laundry change? It seems every year around this time, after purchasing all those expensive books , we wonder where all of our finances have gone. Starting a new year at university always drains the bank, as catching up with friends on how their summer went usually goes hand in hand with food and drinks. Sacrificing a night out with friends because we are on a student budget is never a fun night. This problem is simply avoidable if you know about the best spots in town. This week, UO App has assembled the best places to go every night of the week!
Mondays
There are several different delicious options to grab a bite to eat around campus and in the market for every day of the week. To start off the week, get rid of the Monday blues by going to Milestones. They have a great special for a girl’s night out: 4 Bellini’s and 4 appetizers for $40. There are a wide variety of different appetizers to choose from. However, if you would like to bring the boys along or just hit a pub, Hooleys has 35 cent wings on Mondays as well.
Tuesdays
As for Tuesdays, 1848 is always a guaranteed fantastic night out with friends to enjoy the famous Toonie Tuesdays. The name speaks for itself: how can you go wrong with $2 beers?! With a great location in the UCU Terminus, Toonies is accessible after those long three hours night classes and late night study sessions at the Morisset. Although, if you are not a beer drinker or in the mood for Toonies, Loblaws has a student special every Tuesday that gives you 10% off your groceries when providing student identification. It’s the perfect night to buy that fancy snack you always feel too guilty to buy when its full-price!
Wednesdays
What better way to unwind on hump day than to do some karaoke? Every Wednesday grab your friends and hit Fathers and Sons, better known as FnS, to show off those pipes (or lack there of) and enjoy. FnS is more low-key than going out to a club (and less expensive!) and has a wide variety of cheap food and drinks to choose from!
Thursdays
After a fun night at karaoke, if you are still in the mood for great music, Mambo Nuevo Latino has free tango dance lessons on Thursdays. Wait! That is not the best part.. they also have $5 Mojitos on Thursdays! This is the perfect date night for students on a budget.
Weekend
Finally, the weekend has arrived and what better way to kick it off than by getting some drinks with your girls? Urban well has Ladies Night, which includes $5 martini madness. Following a long night of sipping martinis many people look for a good place with cheap and delicious breakfast. The SHLAG (Sandy Hill Lounge and Grill) offers great breakfast along with $4 appetizers all weekend. Irrevocably, Sunday always comes too fast, but Urban Well offers all night dinner specials to get together with friends and reminisce your week.
Being on a student budget does not have to mean wearing dirty socks because you need to save money. Wash those socks, put on your shoes and grab some food at the close and convenient establishments listed above!
