Don’t Sweat Your Midterm Style

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

I get it. It’s about that time to panic and realize you haven’t started studying for midterms. So you throw on the same sweats you wore yesterday (that are currently laying in a dirty clothes pile on your floor) and maybe a Pitt sweatshirt—or if you’re lucky, a comfy tee. Shoes? Basically anything slip on, i.e. warm furry boots, Toms, or maybe just some socks. We all do it, and it’s okay sometimes, but there should be other times when we can muster up enough energy to get a little more dressed and presentable to the public. Not to mention when you look good you feel good, and everyone likes confidence.

I’ve come up with some midterm-studying outfits, appropriate enough for the library or coffee shop or wherever else you post up with four Redbulls and those hummus and pretzel cups. And don’t worry— they’re still super comfortable so you won’t need to change halfway through your study session.

I’m actually currently wearing my first outfit suggestion as I sit writing this article for you all while simultaneously studying for my other classes. And considering I’m very comfortable, I thought it’d work well. Grab a pair of leggings (yes, I know everyone’s happy with that), and dare to rock a pair of combat boots like these. Then, throw on an oversized flannel (mine is actually a men’s from Old Navy), to complete the look. I’ve thrown my hair up in a ballerina bun so it’s off my face and added a watch and stud earrings as my jewelry of choice. You’ll look trendy and you’ll feel great all at the same time.

Okay, if you’re ready to step up to jeans, here’s how to wear them comfortably and look cute too. I recommend a pair of jeans from Forever 21. They can be as cheap as $10.80 and those things wear down to the point where you feel like you’re wearing leggings or something similar. But they’ll last you awhile all the same. Next, pair dark jeans with a big, comfortable white sweater. Winter white is actually really in for fall, despite Labor Day regulations. It looks elegant, feels warm, and you’ll want to cuddle up in it in bed when you’re done studying. If you’re not into a white pullover or don’t have one, try any oversized, patterned sweater like this one from American Eagle and wrap yourself up in it just as much as you’re wrapping up in your work. Finish this all off with classic pearl stud earrings and an edgy watch, like this one.

If you’re still staring at those sweatpants over in the corner and you haven’t changed your mind about wearing them to study today, there are some ways to make them trendy (I’ll admit!). First, you can actually wear a pair of shorts that are sweatpants material with a striped tee or a graphic vintage tee and a thin leather jacket. This looks cool, sporty, and it’s totally eye-catching. Or, you can wear long sweats in a pretty, color (like fuchsia) with the same striped tee and a comfy cotton blazer or black cardigan. Compliment this with simple, flat sneakers—just not your gym ones!

I hope these outfits inspire your inner fashion-loving self to come out, even during stress-filled weeks!
