“But for Ohio State…” Fundraising Campaign

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OSU chapter.

The Ohio State University began the “But for Ohio State…” Fundraising Campaign on January 1, 2009 and has set a goal of raising $2.5 billion by June 30, 2016.  This money will be used to “change millions of lives through teaching, working on cutting-edge research and giving patients a better life” (E. Gordon Gee).  With already half of the fundraising goal having been met, the university is turning to the public to reach their $2.5 billion goal.  October 4th marked the kick off of the public phase of this fundraising campaign with a celebration at the Ohio Union and a free outside concert performance by O.A.R., a popular band whose members are Ohio State alumni.  This money, and other raised similarly, will be allocated to five different priority areas: 1) Grants, scholarships, and programs; 2) Faculty support; 3) Updates to the university 4) OSU research; and 5) Job and economic development.
