Fall Frenzies

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Virginia Tech chapter.

Fall is my absolute favorite season and it’s finally here! Here are some reasons as to why I’m in love
with fall:

Well, for starters the food! Whenever I think of fall, I think of pumpkin pie, blackberry cobbler and
caramel apples. Warm pie and cobbler are great southern treats during fall. One restaurant that I love
to go to during this season is The Homeplace. This old southern home located in Catawba, Virginia
gives a warm, cozy atmosphere for those to enjoy a nice southern meal. If you haven’t been before, I
definitely recommend it. It’s always very relaxing to sit and look out over the lake and mountains while
eating some delicious cobbler.

Pumpkins! Going to the pumpkin patch is one of my favorite things. Sinkland Farms Pumkin Patch is
always so much fun. Go with friends, family or even that special someone for a fun, inexpensive date
together. They have pumpkins already picked for you, or you can actually go in the fields and pick your
very own pumpkin. There’s live music, live plays, country fixin’s, ice creams, hay rides, corn mazes,
horse trail rides and so much more! Sinkland Farms is located right down I-81 off exit 114. Parking is
only $5.

Hiking! Personally, one of the best times to go hiking, I think, is during fall. The air is crisp and
refreshing as you hike your way along the trail. Pack a light lunch and go hiking with your significant
other and have a picnic at the top of McAfee’s Knob. Enjoy the view of the valley and the changing of
the leaves on the mountain tops. Some other awesome trails to hike which are close by are Dragon’s
Tooth and the Cascades.

Football! Being a student at Virginia Tech means that you automatically have a love and passion for
Hokie football. There’s nothing better than going to a home football game in the fall at Lane Stadium.
Games in Lane are truly spectacular as the mountains in the background pop with the colors of fall.

Candles! I love having candles in my place during fall. Candles are a sure way to bring warmth and an
enticing aroma to any room. I love getting scented candles such as Cinnamon apples and Pumpkin Pie.
Yankee Candle just came out with new fall fragrances. I have yet to try any but, here are the four 2012
fall fragrance list: Apple Pumpkin, Treehouse Memories, Harvest Welcome and Season’s Blessings.

Scary Movies! On those cold, rainy nights sometimes there’s nothing better than snuggling on the
couch with some friends, watching a scary movie. One of my personal Halloween favorites is Hocus
Pocus. I just love Sarah Jessica Parker as a witch in this movie! Though if witches don’t suite your
mood, Abc Family has their annual 13 Nights of Halloween with lots of awesome movies to watch.
However, if you don’t have cable there’s always Red Box which only costs a $1 per night to rent.

Fashion! Obviously, since fall is my favorite season I love fall fashion! I mean, what’s not to love:
sweaters, scarves, and boots galore! I love to wear something comfy, but cute, so naturally fall fashion
is my ultimate kind of style. An everyday trend that is great for those chilly fall days is: pair some
boots with leggings, pull on an oversized sweater, throw on some jewelry and add a purse; there ya go,
chic yet comfy! Another cozy yet, classy outfit: match some boots (or flats) with those perfect fit jeans,
add a long sleeve shirt, wrap around a scarf and top it off with some earrings.
