October is probably my favorite time of the year. That perfect breeze in the air and the colorful leaves falling make everything seem magical. There are pumpkins on door steps and caramel apples in the kitchen. And of course there is Halloween! Halloween is the kick-off to the holiday season. It’s the perfect chance to shake out all of the weird, wacky, creepy, and spooky. If you are craving some spooky sweets, these are fun and easy to make.
If you prefer cute over creepy at Halloween, these little guys will make you smile. My mother used to make these for all occasions. They satisfy that sweet tooth and are perfect on top of a fresh baked peanut butter cookie.
Ingredients
Miniature peanut butter cups- I used Reese’s dark
Mini M&Ms
Candy corn
Frosting –store bought works fine for this recipe
Â
Â
Supplies
Plastic bag
Scissors
Knife- any kind will do
Â
Directions
Cut a tiny tip in the plastic bag and fill it with a spoonful of frosting. Unwrap all of the peanut butter cups, and gently cut through the middle of each one. Squeeze a dot of frosting on the insides of the peanut butter cup (to make the candy corn stick), and two dots of frosting on top. Place the candy corn in the middle and one m&m on each dot of frosting on the top. Place them on warm peanut butter cookies or enjoy as is!

These goodies are only for the “gutsiest” to try! They look real enough that many people ask “What is that thing?!?” These brains and guts (whatever you want to them to be) are perfect to make with a group of friends or take to a Halloween party. Put these on a chocolate or red velvet cupcake, and then sprinkle with “blood.” Make a mess and good luck trying to eat them!
Ingredients
Tootsie rollsÂ
Red food color- green also looks gross (and that is a good thing)
Supplies
Wax paperÂ
DirectionsÂ
Unwrap 6 tootsie rolls and place them in your hand. Push them together and roll into a ball until they become one- It will take a little effort at first. Place on the wax paper and make an indention in the middle.
Squeeze a drop of food coloring in the indention. Smash the ball until the color is mixed in to your desire. Take a small pinch of it and roll it into a ball. Set the ball on the wax paper. Take the rest of it and roll it out until about ÂĽ inch thick. It should look like a long worm. Take the worm and lay it around the ball until it looks like a brain. For the best results do not press into the ball and make really short zigzags. You can also make intestines, just use your imagination! For the blood, dilute the red food coloring with water until it is slightly thinner. Sprinkle it on top of brains after you have moved them onto the cupcakes. Â
Â
I made these cupcakes last year for a Frankenstein project at school. I used marzipan (an almond candy), but I found it easier to manipulate the tootsie rolls! Plus the tootsie roll version looks more realistic!
