My sophomore year of college, my roommate and I would always nap and drink excessive amounts of coffee so we could stay awake to get all of our schoolwork done. We tried the twenty-minute power naps but they always left us feeling groggy. One day my roommate suggested drinking coffee before my nap so that I would wake up with the energy from my coffee and my nap. I tried it, and let me tell you, it worked!
Of course I didn’t know if this was really because of the coffee or just a psychological trick of the mind. So ladies, I’ve done the research for you, and I am here to tell you that it was not just my imagination; drinking coffee before a power nap actually works!
According to Lifehacker ,there was a study completed at Loughborough University in the UK that proves when you are sleep-deprived, you get the most energy from drinking coffee right before you take a 15 to 20 minute nap.
Livestrong states that caffeine is fully absorbed by the digestive system in 45 minutes, but you will start to feel the effects in only 15 minutes.
Baltimore nutritionist Diana Sugiuchi said that it’s worth a shot. She continued that it is all about trial and error when it comes to caffeine. Essentially, it is whatever works best for you.
“I don’t know that there would be any adverse effects to doing it [napping] that way,” Sugiuchi stated.
So what are you waiting for, ladies? Go get your nap on… right after that cup of coffee!
