For some of us, this week was all about the politics; the Presidential Debates began and America was eager to listen. For others, it was about the recent Chris Brown and Rhianna sightings, and for the rest, possibly the end of the regular season in Major League Baseball was a big deal. Whatever it is that you’re interested in, it’s important that as college students, we’re all informed, so here’s what we can take away from this week:
1. Romney announces that he wants to get rid of PBS, which subsequently means no more Sesame Street and Big Bird. “I’m sorry, Jim, I’m gonna stop the subsidy to PBS…I like PBS, I love Big Bird,” explained the presidential candidate. While most of us, Democrats and Republicans alike, weren’t that shocked by his statement, some of America’s smaller citizens didn’t appreciate the comment: eight year old Cecelia Crawford wrote Romney an emphatic letter telling him to “…find something else to cut off!”
2. In nonpolitical news, Nicki Minaj threatened to shoot Mariah Carey on the set of American Idol auditions this past week in Charlotte, North Carolina. While we love Nicki Minaj, it seems as though we are witnessing a downward spiral. Between the practical exorcism she gave on stage at the Grammys last year to now threatening one of her costars, I don’t think I’m the only person sincerely worried. Barbara Walters revealed the story to her audience on The View and Nicki was less than thrilled; she tweeted, “…Walters didn’t reach out from our team, I guess we’re too dangerous.” FOX has yet to comment on the story, and an Idol producer denied the death threat despite video evidence. Whether or not the threat took place or if Mariah Carey retaliated in any way not noted, it’s safe to say that American Idol will be getting a few more viewers in its early episodes. I, for one, would love to see this showdown instead of the typically glass-shattering voices that take up less time than the commercials during the two-hour premiere episodes.
3. While I suspect that any woman who ever thought about dating Chris Brown would seriously reconsider that desire given the past few years’ events, that doesn’t appear to be the case. After allegedly being seen together at a nightclub, Chris Brown and Rihanna were seen at Jay-Z’s Brooklyn concert this week. Following the concert citing, Chris Brown told E! News that him and his model girlfriend Karrueche Tran split up so he could “focus on his career.” Either way, the famous celeb duo seesm to be back in action. Didn’t Rihanna learn anything in school?
