If you just turned 21 or you’re already 21, these are drinks every collegiette must try! I pulled out some recipes that have been inspired by movies or television shows, and I’m sure you’ve heard about at least two or three of these. These five drinks do not seem to disappoint. Grab a couple of friends or if you prefer, carve out some alone time to try these. Either way, drink up!
From Crazy, Stupid, Love
“The Old Fashioned”
This is the drink that man-candy Jacob (Ryan Gosling) made for Hannah (Emma Stone).
Place a sugar cube at the bottom of your glass. Sprinkle it with two dashes of Angostura bitters and add about a teaspoon of water or soda water. Stir the contents until the sugar cube has dissolved. Add a few ice cubes and then fill it up with your choice of whiskey (bourbon is recommended).
From Jersey Shore
“Ron Ron Juice”
It doesn’t look like Ron measures any of his ingredients when he makes this pre-game drink for his roomies. But he combines vodka, cranberry juice, watermelon juice, maraschino cherries and ice into a blender until he feels like it is ready.
Pour this fist-pumping drink into a red plastic cup and you’re set for an unforgettable night.
From Sex and the City
“The Cosmopolitan” or a “Cosmo”
Carrie Bradshaw is the one to thank for popularizing this sophisticated drink. She would often order this when she would go out with her girlfriends.
1 ½ shots citrus vodka
½ shot cointreau
¾ shot cranberry juice
½ shot lime juice
2 dashes of orange bitters
Shake all the ingredients together with ice and strain it into a cocktail glass. Fancy it up with a slice of orange.
From Mad Men
“Tim Collins”
As we all know, there is not one episode of Mad Men where there is no cigarette or drink in hand. I chose one that seemed very refreshing, but you can find plenty of different recipes online.
1 oz of fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon of sugar
1 ½ oz of gin
a few lemon slices
From Casino Royale (James Bond)
“The Vesper”
Originating from the 1953 novel Casino Royale, the 007 agent is caught drinking this in almost every James Bond movie.
“Three measures of Gordon’s (gin), one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it very well until it’s ice cold. Then add a large thin slice of lemon peel. Got it?”
“Certainly, monsieur.”
“Gosh, that’s certainly a drink.”
It sure sounds like one!
