10 Reasons Why You, the F&M Student, Should Vote in this Election

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at F and M chapter.

Election Day is November 6th, and many of us are guilty of thinking “why should I vote?” Well, HC F&M is here to give you 10 reasons why you should go out and vote this Election Day.

1. You can vote right on campus. I mean, it’s not that long a walk to the ASFC. Your vote matters and we can all use the exercise (and sneak in a workout after you vote). Plus, at least you know where the ASFC is, so you don’t have to worry about forgetting where to vote or not knowing the right place.

2. It’s so easy to register to vote! At F&M, we have a group called F&M Votes that is more than willing to help you register to vote. In fact, they’ll even come into your classroom to register people to vote. Killing class time, especially for as good of a cause as voting, is always worth it.

3. We live in a swing state, so our vote matters! This means that it could vote either Democrat or Republican, so your vote could help shape the election.

4. The only form of ID you need at the polls is your F&M ID. Don’t say that the voter ID laws make it too hard for you as an F&M student to vote, especially when we all have that handy little ID we got freshman year.

5. As a smart and well-educated F&M student, your educated vote matters. Too many people our age don’t show up to vote or don’t register, and the college age students are definitely a key vote in this election!

6. Your professors will constantly be talking about the elections. You would never want to go to class unprepared, so you should come ready to vote and understand what you’re voting for! Plus, your professors will be able to help you understand all the things you need to know about any topic relating to this upcoming election.

7. You have plenty of time to vote on Election Day. The polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., so “not having the time” is no excuse!

8. You will make your parents (and grandparents, and other relatives) so proud. It is a mature and responsible thing to do. Show your family how well your F&M education has paid off and your great knowledge of election issues! Plus, I know I would get a lecture if I didn’t vote!

9. F&M Votes will be handing out all sorts of cool Election Day goodies when people go to vote! Who doesn’t love free stuff?

10. You have until October 9th to register to vote. That still leaves you with a decent bit of time. So, go register and rock the vote! Plus, many of the big issues of this election are relevant to us college kids, like student loans and the economy. Would you rather someone else decide what you want, or would you rather be able to vote and say what you want?
