Upon learning that Nick Goddard, a brother of Phi Kappa Psi and a DJ on campus, would be donating his paycheck from this Friday’s DJing gig to Mud Tug and Hillside Family of Agencies, there was no question that he would be this week’s Campus Celeb (and he could probably double for this week’s Campus Cutie!).
Name:Â Nick Goddard
Major: Industrial and Systems Engineering
Year: 3rd
Hometown: Lancaster, NY
What are you involved in on campus?
I am currently a brother of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity here at RIT. I am the Recording Secretary and a member of the Executive Board within Phi Psi. Last year, I planned the DJ Kap Slap concert (a nationally renowned Mashup DJ) as the Major Events chair of Phi Psi, which was co-sponsored by Delta Phi Epsilon, the College Activities Board, and the Greek Programming Board. I also served on the Inter-Fraternity Council’s Executive Board as the Corresponding Secretary.
How did you get involved in DJing?
I got involved in DJing shortly after coming to college. I was exposed to new styles of music during my freshman year, such as House and Electro House, and Dubstep, by several of my fraternity brothers. I was amazed by these genres and how this music could instantly energize a crowd, but what intrigued me the most was the creativity of the 2 brothers who were DJing events on campus and our annual Formals. They showed me how mixing 2 or more songs together can create a totally unique musical experience and I’ve been avidly DJing ever since.
What are your thoughts about Mud Tug?
I am very excited for Mud Tug this year since we will be attempting the World Record. Mud Tug has always been a really fun, philanthropic event for RIT students, but nothing matches the feeling of holding a world record. I was lucky enough to catch a glimpse of that at the successful Dodgeball World record event help in the Spring of 2011. I am glad to see that students all over campus are already as pumped as I am to break the world record at Mud Tug this year. This will only increase the amount of money we raise for Hillside this year and hopefully with everyone’s help we can far exceed our $11,800 donation from last year!
Won’t you miss that paycheck that you will be donating?
I decided to donate my paycheck for the event I will DJ on Friday because I have always DJed solely because I enjoy it. Getting paid to do DJ is just a perk and I know the money will benefit Hillside much more than it will benefit me. I have volunteered at the local Hillside location in Scottsville several times and I really appreciate everything that Hillside does for children in need. Â
Make sure to check out Nick at CAB’s Dirty Dancing on Friday!
