OB: You just became a Sophmore Senator, why did you decide to run?
TB: I was a Freshman Senator last year and it was a great experience but I took on too much and became frustrated and tired. At the end of last semester I decided not to run again so that I could fully devote myself to studying, sleeping, and eating. However, when a Freshman Senator stepped down, I felt like it was a sign to run.
OB: What do you hope to do for the Sophmore class?
TB: My goals and aspirations for what we, Sophomore Senators, can accomplish for the Sophomore class is greater transparency in SGA, active participation in the process of SGA, and easier to use student resources for when students have questions such as, “where do I go to start a club, and how, etc.?” Those are just some of my goals. I recognize I do not have all the answers or solutions so I am very interested for students to come to me with their concerns or comments about Mercer issues.
OB: How did you feel after you found out you had won? What was your first reaction?
TB: SGA is a great passion of mine and when I found out about the exciting new direction Mollie Davis, SGA President, was moving SGA in, I was eager to help. So naturally I was happy when I found out I had won. What really touched me though, was the outpouring of support I had from the Sophomore class, I was in awe. My first reaction was a huge grin.
OB: What is your favorite part of Mercer?
TB: I think it would be easier to ask what isn’t my favorite part of Mercer? What initially drew me to Mercer was Mercer’s belief in its students ability to change their worlds for the better. What persuaded me to become a student is the real and caring relationship Mercer professors have with their students. But what convinced me to stay, and what has helped me to keep going through difficult times, are the relationships I have with some truly amazing Mercer students.
