September is here, and you know what that means—fall is almost officially upon us! The leaves will start to fade from their bright green, tailgate tents will soon be popping up all over campus, and the heat will finally begin to disappear. September not only takes us on the first few steps into autumn, but it brings us an explosion from the entertainment world. So as you’re waiting for the weekends to come and the football games to begin, take some time to enjoy all that pop culture has to offer!
September always means the return of the reality competitions. The Voice comes back to NBC on September 10th at 7 central. Although it’s steering clear of its rivalry with American Idol this season, Simon Cowell’s The X Factor, which premieres on September 8th at 7 pm on FOX, is staring down the veteran talent show. It’ll be the second season for the American version of the extremely popular singing competition. Demi Lovato and Britney Spears will be on the panel this season, bringing in tons of new viewers. The current success of former contests from the original British version (One Direction, Cher Lloyd, and Olly Murs are all alumni) will definitely help boost the show’s popularity as it enters its sophomore season. Dancing with the Stars will begin its All-Star season on September 24th at 7 pm, during which all the famous faces will take to the dance floor once again. Previous winners that will be competing include Drew Lachey, Shawn Johnson, Emmitt Smith, and Apolo Ohno.
Your favorite sitcoms and dramas are also back on air! Glee also returns on September 13th, moving to its new slot of 8 central on Thursday nights. The fourth season is jam-packed with several A-list guest stars, including Sarah Jessica Parker and Kate Hudson, as Rachel Berry takes her place at NYADA as the glee club learns to cope without its seniors. New Girl is back for a second season on September 25th, and it’s looking to be another fantastic season for the award-winning sitcom. ABC’s megahit Modern Family is back on September 26th, after a special one-hour premiere of the popular series The Middle. Both are looking to have really promising seasons. ABC struck gold with the unbeatable drama Once Upon a Time, which returns for a second season on September 30th, and if it’s anything like last year it’s going to be an incredible season!
The music scene is also delivering in September. The musical month kicks off on September 6th with MTV’s Video Music Awards. In the past the show has been lacking a little gusto, but with a line-up like this there’s no way it’s going to be an awful show. Kevin Hart will be hosting the night, with musical performances by Pink, Taylor Swift, Alicia Keys, and Green Day, whose album Uno! will drop September 25th, and One Direction (who will reportedly be performing their new single Live While We’re Young for the first time). Olly Murs, who opened for One Direction this summer on their US tour, album In Case You Didn’t Know, makes its stateside debut on September 25th. Bob Dylan and Dave Matthews Band are also back in September, with their latest albums dropping on the 11th.
With a month like this there’s no excuse for being bored during the week and every excuse not to finish the pile of homework sitting on your desk. But as collegiettes we all know that’s what Sundays are for! So while you’re not shopping for gameday outfits or catching up classwork, stay tuned for all the latest changes in the entertainment world during September!
