During my freshman year at UC Davis, upperclassmen told me stories about the Davis campus that creeped me out. Some of those stories made it impossible for me to sleep or even walk around certain buildings for fear of what the….
…………..you know the scary stuff.
Okay, I admit. Not all the stories I’ve heard were scary,some were even quite interesting and fascinating! So as you read these stories, please continue the tradition to pass it on and stay tuned for part two of the Urban Legends at UC Davis.
Legend has it, that there’s a girl’s face on the side of Tercero A
Unfortunately, the sad tragic tale behind it is that the girl leaped to her death from the third floor of Tercero A. Even though the wall has been painted over, you can still see her faint image on the building. Scary, huh?
A Ghost Lurks the Arboretum Gazebo
Rumor has it that a student hung himself and that his ghost comes back to haunt the Arboretum Gazebo. Although no one has ever confirmed this suicide, it still makes it all the scarier!
Unknown Note
Walk into Malcom 3 and take the elevator to the fifth floor. Look closely through the crack between the door and the wall, you’ll see a some writing there on the ceiling of the elevator shaft. Some say they saw a suicidal note that says, “What did I do wrong? Why do you all hate me?” Others say they saw something different written like, “Sh*t, give me another chance.” [Readers, why don’t you try and take a peek, then let me know what the note really says?]
The Spirit of the Cow
It has been mythicized that cows can be lead upstairs, but they cannot come back downstairs. The way a cow’s body is formed does not allow it to bend its knees properly to walk back down. Therefore, in 1980’s a group of curious students from Tercero’s D-Building stole a cow in the middle ofthe night from Dairy Cattle Facility and led it to the rooftop of D Building. The students were able to get the cow to the rooftop, like they hypothesized; however sure enough they couldn’t get the cow back down. Sadly, even the UC Student Housing couldn’t figure out a way to get the cow back down so the poor cow had to be killed on the spot. Rumor has it that if you’re on the stairs going up to the roof of Tercero’s D Building, stay quiet and you’ll be able to hear the dead cow’s moos.
Unabomber at UC Davis?
A book with handwritten markings which parallels some of the Unabomber’s manifesto was discovered by UC Davis Librarians and handed over to the FBI. Thus, there is a possibility that the Unabomber might have done his research and writing of the manifesto at UC Davis. Although there is no concrete evidence that it was really the Unabomber, the Unabomber’s attorney, Federal Public Defender Quin Denvir was a Davis resident.
