Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Patrick Donovan, I’m currently a sophomore at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. Originally I’m from Howard County, Maryland where I attended Centennial High School.
Other than music, what are your interests?
I’m currently a full time student so I really enjoy doing lots of reading and writing as an English major. I also like spending time with my friends, traveling, and golfing!
What got you started?
I got a guitar for Christmas in seventh grade and have been playing it ever since.
What kept you going?
Music is just something that’s always been there. It’s an easy place to escape from things, and something that will always be a part of my life.
What is your favorite moment with a fan?
I’ve played a few shows in the past year and looked out to notice people in the crowd singing along with some of the songs. I think that hearing a crowd sing my own words back at me is one of my favorite experiences that I’ll ever have.
Coolest place you’ve ever played?
I think that Mad River pub in Manayunk, PA is one of the coolest places I’ve ever gotten to play. It’s a small venue, but the few times I’ve gotten to play there it’s been packed out and tons of fun.
Tell us a little about your creation process, music or lyrics first?
I like writing the two together best, but every now and then I’ll start writing some lyrics that don’t come back in to use for weeks or months when I find them again. Each song is usually written differently.
Where do you draw your inspiration?
I usually write about things that are going on in my life I think, so usually that. I also find inspiration in the lives of my friends or characters in books from time to time.
Tell us about the people you work with?
I’ve been fortunate enough to work with some really amazing producers that have been a huge help for me in terms of recording. Mike Yap, another SJU and also AO, a producer from west Philly are two of my favorites. I also really like working with E-Hos. We’ve been collaborating together for just over a year now and it’s been a really great experience all around working with him.
If you could work with one other musician, who would it be?
Joy Williams of the Civil Wars. Or Marcus Mumford. Or Adele. It’s a tie.
Who would you want to model your career off of?
The Beatles.
Tell us about your new or upcoming tracks/albums?
I just put out a new collaborative EP with E-Hos,
