Musings on Makeup and More

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Georgetown chapter.

I’m currently sitting in Lau, trying to brainstorm what to write about for my last article of the year. I haven’t given this article a lot of thought, because I think I’m in denial that the year is over. I started writing for HerCampus almost as soon as it started and I’ve loved doing it, and hope to continue writing for it into my next three years at Georgetown. (at least I can admit there’s three years left!) As I write this New York State of Mind by Billy Joel is playing, and while it’s a great song, it’s a bit nostalgic (it’s always played at the end of Knicks games as everyone leaves), so I think it’s fitting to be listening to it as a I write this last post. I could write a fashion or beauty article, but I think today will be more of a wrap up… A wrap up of every article I’ve written may seem crazy/impossible, but I think I can do it. Throughout everything I’ve posted or written, I truly believe that no matter what clothes you wear, hairstyles you try, or makeup you apply, you should do whatever makes you feel happy and confident. That trend that everyone is writing about and telling you to try out may not be for you and that’s fine. Here are my final tips for all of you as we head into the summer, and leave another school year behind.

1. Be confident in you, because at the end of the day the only opinions that matter when it comes to you is yours.

2. Even though it may seem scary don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone every once in a while. Whether it’s with fashion risks or everyday life, it may seem hard, but in the end it’s worth it.

3. Less is more. This may seem like a beauty or fashion term, but it truly is a life term. Just think about it.

4. Embrace your imperfections, because those imperfections are what set you apart. (I’m still coming to terms with my wild mane of hair, but it’s a process I won’t give up on!)

5. Keep everything in perspective. Yes, that grade may not have been what you wanted or you didn’t get that position you applied for, but remember there’s always tomorrow.

6. Cherish every moment. But seriously! I wrote an article about this a few weeks back, having a quarter life/mid-semester crisis, but it’s true. The speed at which this year went by is unbelievable, and all those “first-times” are now memories. Remember to appreciate every minute of every day.

7. Think positively. It makes a huge difference! If something is out of your control and is causing you stress, just let it go. I know, easier said than done, but if you just try, it will do a lot.

8. True beauty isn’t on the outside, and as cliché as it sounds, it truly comes from within you.

Looking at my first article (Ten Things You Need In Your Fall Wardrobe) is like some crazy flashback, because I remember sitting in the MSB, writing it and being completely nervous that it would be totally horrible and I’d be kicked out of HerCampus. Now I’m sitting in Lau wondering how I could be writing these final words for the year. I think that’s it for now (or until next year), so good luck on finals, enjoy your summers and wear sunscreen!!
