Her Campus takes a study break with Kappa Kappa Gamma’s president, Annie Geppert. I reminisced with her about the highs of this past year and got the inside scoop on all the Kappa Kappa Glamma she’s anticipating to come next year!
HC: Why did you want to be Kappa’s president?
AG: When I joined Kappa as a freshman, I knew that I wanted to be a part of exec, so that I could be a leader within our chapter. But it wasn’t really until this school year that I seriously considered running for the position. Kappa has given me so many great experiences with so many great people, and I knew that I wanted to give back and keep the chapter moving in a positive direction. I love just about everything about Kappa, and it was really my passion and enthusiasm for our chapter that motivated me to run for the spot!
HC: What do you enjoy most about being president?
AG: I enjoy a lot of things about being Kappa’s president! This semester I’ve especially enjoyed getting to teach our new members all about Kappa, and I’ve loved watching them all come to love Kappa as much as I do! Their enthusiasm reminds me why I love Kappa so much!
HC: What are the challenges/struggles you’ve encountered being president?
AG: At first it was a bit of an adjustment realizing that I was the person everyone came to with questions. I was on the phone with our old president, Marja, all the time, figuring things out. But I’ve learned a lot this semester about Kappa and myself as a leader. I know now that I need to stand behind the decisions I make for the chapter, and I am very lucky to be surrounded by the other girls on our Chapter Council who are so supportive.
HC: How do you manage being president on top of all your school work?
AG: Dealing with being president and all my classes has definitely taught me a lot of lessons about time management. Luckily, though, I love Kappa and my major, so I map out time in my day to spend time on both things. Some days are definitely more difficult than others, but I’m the queen of to-do lists and using my planner! At the end of the day, I realize that there’s time to get everything done, and I’ve learned to prioritize what is most important on any given day.
HC: What do you look forward to next year?
AG: I’m really lucky to have the chance to attend Kappa’s national convention this June, so I’m definitely looking forward to bringing back some new ideas for our chapter! I’m also looking forward to all of the great programming that we have planned for next semester – not only the socials, but events like Dad’s weekend and Kappa Klassic. Founders Day Brunch is also one of my favorite events we have in the fall, because we get a chance to visit with Kappa alumni who are so fun and full of great stories about their Kappa days!
HC: How do you anticipate next year’s recruitment will be with all the new changes?
AG: I have always loved recruitment (I’m that girl who loses her voice within the first few parties of the first day), and I don’t think next year will be any different. I think the changes are going to be an adjustment, but in the end, they’ll be very positive for all of Panhellenic. I’m excited to see the changes put into action, and I think recruitment will be just as fun of an experience as it always is for chapter members and PNMs!
HC: What is the most useful advice you were told during Rush?
AG: As a PNM, my GLG told me to just relax and have fun! There’s really no need trying to impress anyone during recruitment, and I don’t think I necessarily realized that until she pointed it out to me. The advice obviously worked out pretty great since I can’t picture myself being happier anywhere else.
HC: What are your summer plans?
AG: I’m actually moving to Chicago for the summer, and I could not be more excited about it! I’ll be interning downtown at KPMG, which is an accounting firm, in their audit department. Like I said before, I’ll also have a chance to travel to Florida for Kappa Convention which I’m really looking forward to!
