As the weekend approached, the UCI collegiates lucky enough to have obtained a ticket brushed the dust from their old sleeping bags, sniffed out their tents and set their sights on Indio, for Coachella 2012!
Having been to a number of European festivals in the past (Outlook Festival in Croatia and festivals back home in the UK like, Bestival, Boomtown and Reading) I eagerly anticipated what this world renowned festival would have in store. It certainly didn’t disappoint. Before even entering the music arena, in every direction there was something to feast your eyes upon. From cyber cafes and recharge booths, to people exiting the art tent covered head to toe in body paint, to a huge testosterone fueled dodgball game, to a circus style ring, where one could test out their own musical talents, peddle pushing a bike that generated a wheel of guitars.
Usually what troubles me at festivals is working up the energy to actually leave the tent after a blurry night of music madness. Yet Coachella has a solution, your very own golf cart shuttle service that will take you from camp site to the main arena at the nod of a head, perfect…
Now in the music arena- each stage pumping, light shows flashing- the act of choosing from the array of talented artists in itself can leave you turning in circles. Finally making a decision, my personal favorites, included Azealia Banks (making the crowd go wild with her classic 212), SBTRKT (featuring a familiar voice – Drake) and of course Coachella’s headliners Dr.Dre and Snoop Dogg. Stealing the show, Dre and Snoop were joined by 50 cent (dropping In da club), Eminem (Forgot about Dre) and newbies Wiz Khalifa and Kendrick Lamar. Yet the guest appearance that shocked us all started with the words ‘Waddup Coachella’ as we watch confoundedly 2pac resurrected (via a hologram) and in conversation with Snoop Dogg and the crowd.
It will be a hard one to match but I’m sure Coachella 2013 will have even more to offer Hercampus readers, so keep your eyes peeled for next years craziness!
