Tim Wells: Black and Gold Through and Through

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Southern Miss chapter.

It is rare to meet a person as self-less, caring, and determined as Tim Wells. The 21-year old Southern Miss junior has strived to make a difference at Southern Miss and in the lives of everyone he meets since the day he started his college career. Tim embodies what it truly means to be a Southern Miss Golden Eagle, and in doing so he serves as a positive role model for all college students.

Tim came to Southern Miss from Hurley, MS and decided on a major in International Studies. Quickly after enrolling, Tim realized his desire to get involved on campus. “I was very involved in high school, and I loved it. I wanted to experience it on the college level.

I also knew that getting involved would give me the opportunity to meet a lot of people as well as be able to serve them and the university.” Tim has certainly accomplished that! His main involvement has been with the Student Government Association (SGA) as Homecoming Director, Executive Administrator of Event Programming, and Freshman Associates. However, he has also been heavily involved with the Baptist Student Union, Relay for Life, an Lambda Sigma Honor Society.

One quality that truly makes Tim stand out from others is his open heart and obvious love for Christ. When asked what quality he strives to possess, Tim says, “As a follower of Christ, I am called to do all things for the glory of God. That is something I constantly strive to do. That does not mean I am perfect and that I don’t mess up because I do. Ultimately, I want to be an example of Christ.” It is easy to see Tim’s love and concern for others. He has a big heart, and because of that he was led to serve as a missionary in East Asia.

“My mission trips have been awesome! I have been three times, and I will be making a fourth trip this summer for a couple of months. Going back to East Asia is beyond anything I ever thought I would be doing.” Before coming to Southern Miss, Tim wasn’t aware that he had an interest in foreign missions, but says that a lot about love and faith has been revealed to him through these missions causing him to experience spiritual growth.

Tim has a lot on his plate, but he enjoys everything he does. As far as future career goals, he says he hasn’t quite figured it out. “I am not exactly sure. I am still waiting on God to reveal that to me. I would love to eventually work for the government some day as a diplomat or something involving foreign affairs.” Right now, Tim is focusing on his role of being a leader here at Southern Miss. “I really hope that my legacy at Southern Miss will be a positive one. I hope that people will remember that I loved my university, and that I took every opportunity that I could to serve the students. I hope that people chose to remember that Tim Wells left Southern Miss better than he found it.”
