Just in time for registering classes this week! Here are the HC Trin team’s top picks for Professors to take in Fall 2012. Wishing you a drama-free registration on TCOnline!
Professor Anderson (Classics): I have taken quite a few classes with Professor Anderson, and have thoroughly enjoyed them. He is the sweetest man ever and extremely knowledgeable in the subject he teaches. He is a great Latin teacher too. Anderson keeps class interesting by showing fun Youtube videos and relating topics to current events. If you are interested in taking a Classics class definitely take one with Professor Anderson!
-Amanda Keyko
Professor Gordon (Art History): I took Prof. Gordon’s AHIS 102, Art History of the West, first semester sophomore year. It was a great class, with excellent discussion and really gorgeous art. Gordon does an amazing job of engaging the class and making the history incredibly interesting. Gordon is a wonderful teacher who always has great class offerings. I would recommend taking any of his classes if you can!
-Samantha Rhodes
Professor Chamber (Political Science): I do not have enough good things to say about this woman. I had her the second semester of my freshman year for American National Government (POLS 102) and I’ve made a point to take a class with her every possible semester since. As a professor, she’s fair, straight forward, and passionate about the subjects she teaches. As a mentor and a friend, she cares deeply about her students’ overall well-being both inside and outside the classroom. She’s exactly the kind of faculty member you want in your corner. Professor Chambers has varying academic interests in the political and social sphere, but she specializes in racial and ethnic politics and gender related topics. Because she has a wealth of information on timely subjects and is an overall rock star, her classes are engaging and well-attended.

Lisa Matias (Theater and Dance): One of the first things this Theater and Dance professor will tell you is that she doesn’t want you to call her “Professor”; she wants you to call her Lisa. This important tid bit is representative of the way she approaches teaching her Jazz Technique (I, II, & III) courses. Lisa often stresses that dance is a “metaphor for life” and uses her lessons plans as a mechanism for not only improving your dancing ability, but also bettering your outlook on just about everything. Her classes involve a lot of stretching, strengthening, and core work in addition to increasing students’ dance vocabulary and range of movement. Whether you’ve been dancing since diapers or you only dance in the shower, one of Lisa’s Jazz classes will undoubtedly be one of your favorite classes you take at Trinity.
-Sarah Gardiner
Professor Hager (English): I took Professor Hager’s “Intro to Literature” Course my freshman year and found it stacked with students from all grades! It is a great course to take if you are looking to fulfill your humanities requirement because you get to read a myriad of different literature, instead of focusing on one topic specifically (and it can’t hurt to add to your knowledge database). Professor Hager is not only passionate about his classes, he is also passionate about his students. He was so encouraging and helpful my freshman year that I decided to major in English and make him my advisor! He is always available for help or an interesting conversation.
-Julia Grasso
Professor Papoulis (English) Quite a fabulous professor that inspires magnificent writing. Her casual yet convivial style of running class allows students to feel comfortable and open. Discussion always runs so energetically, because everyone wants to be a part of the conversation. With lax guidelines of the essay assignments, and her encouragement of free writing, gives students freedom to explore topics that they are not often given the chance to do so. The revision process is stupendous, and I have learned much from this alone in her class. Seeing her outside of class will give your revisions a boost of encouragement.
-Ylan Nguyen
Professor Van Givhoven Rey (Hispanic Studies) Absolutely the best Spanish teacher I have ever had in my life! He is fun and spunky but extremely organized. With small reasonable assignments for each class, all students are able to participate each day. He teaches with excitement, and it honestly makes you want to do the homework and want to pay attention. He is extremely helpful outside of class, and always wants the best for his students.

Professor Couch (American Studies) Professor Couch often teachers seminars, and I can assure they will always be fascinating. He has so much passion for the topics that he teaches. With great appreciation for Trinity students he is always incredibly happy with any comment that you make in class, encouraging you to do so more often.
-Ylan Nguyen
Professor Ndibe (English) Inspiring creative writing teacher! Great class for learning a good revision process. As long as you put in the effort, he is a fair grader. He also always has crazy stories from his life that brighten up the class.
-Ylan Nguyen
Professor Gregory (Math) Such a helpful and understanding math professor, who is always willing to assist you with any problems. She’ll give it to you straight forward, if you try you will succeed. I definitely recommend seeing her outside of class, she’s quirky and extremely friendly!
